Can you hear the drums Queenslando?
I remember long ago another starry night like this
Under floodlights
Queenslando
Billy was counting his money and putting on his bra
He could hear the Hayne Train
And sounds of purple boots were coming from afar

He’s getting closer now
Queenslando
Every hour every minute seemed to last eternally
You were so afraid
Queenslando
He is young and full of life and prepared to die
And I’m not ashamed to say
The sight of Gidley on the bench almost makes me cry

But there was something in the air that night
A bit of spite,
Queenslando
There was Haynezy there for all to see
Fighting that grub Billy,
Queenslando
Though I thought that he’d be gooorrrne
There’s no regret
If he has to head butt him again
He will, my friend,
Queenslando

Now he’s on the plane Queenslando
And since many years I haven’t seen a noose in your hand
Can you hear the drums
Queenslando?
Do you still recall the frightful night he crossed into Queensland?
I can see in Billy’s eyes
How scared he was to fight not using elbows but his hands

There was something in the air that night
At the Parra fight,
Queenslando
It was on for young and old you see,
Hayne and Billy,
Queenslando
Though I never thought that we could lose
There’s no regret
If he has to flog him again
He will, my friend,
Queenslando

There was something in the air that night
A lot of spite,
Queenslando
Everybody hates that grub Billy,
Even the Judiciary,
Queenslando
Though I never thought that we could lose
There’s no regret
If he has to own Billy again
He will, my friend,
Queenslando
Yes, if he has to head butt him again
He will, my friend,
Queenslando...

You’re so vain

He walked onto the field, like he’s just been given a Yacht (oh wait….)
The boy was born in Bowraville, but it’s something he’s forgot
He had one eye on his wallet as, he watched the ball go by….
And all the Cane Toads claim that he’s from Queensland, that he’s from Queensland and….

He’s so vain, he forgot all about being born blue
You’re so vain, you forgot all about being born blue
Didn’t you, Didn’t youuuuuuuu

He visited several years ago, and apparently that’s what counts
He then showed up playing in Maroon, and off him the Blues bounce
Each year we have lost narrowly, and everyone knows whyyyyy
Cause their best player is from NEW SOUTH WALES, from NEW SOUTH WALES and…..

He’s so vain, he forgot all about being born Blue
You’re so vain, you forgot all about being born blue
Didn’t you, Didn’t youuuuuuuu

Cause their best player is from NEW SOUTH WALES, from NEW SOUTH WALES and…..

He’s so vain, he forgot all about being born Blue
You’re so vain, you forgot all about being born blue
Didn’t you, Didn’t youuuuuuuu

For some reason, everyone up here seems to forget where they come from and feel the need to keep reminding themselves.

Everytime I hear that song, I remember the immortal words of ABBA....

"There was something in the hair that night,
It was flakey and white,
It was dandruff.."
