Question about Matt Dufty

The trend now is for player giants such as the Rorters and Storm. With a few exceptions it seems the Dragons haven't quite grasped that concept yet.

No, we don't have to get rid of Hunt. Norman should be playing halfback and Hunt 5/8. Norman should be running the show and Hunt should be playing as a running and attacking 5/8, who can also create when opportunities arise.

As for Sailor, I think 5/8 looks to be his best position. Maybe he can develop into a first grade 5/8. Until we give him a chance, we will never know.
I agree about the switch between Hunt and Norman. Do you think that Hunt at 5/8 would be as creative as say Luke Keary?

It's a real shame that we could not jag Keary when he wasn"t wanted at Souths and alas lost him to the Roosters!!

Correct..so know we have identified it is not the players fault but the whole bloody set up for when they are training with the 1st grade squad (this includes reggies & development players).
We will see know how Jayden Sullivan game evolves under Mary...it wont.. it will be put into a box and tunnel.
I have said on here for 2-3 years that Dufty has what it takes to make it...just needed confidence, coaching and the right game plans to be sniffing around the ruck and forget aboput the 2008/2009 invented fullback sweep and block plays.
He is gone next year and selfishly pray it does not come back to bite us.
But as i know his old man i hope he flourishes elsewhere.

Agreed BLM01. I really liked the look of Dufty when he was in the lower grades and saw massive potential with him, Field and Luciano when they played together as they combined well in a lot of the moves. However, I do realise that playing in the lower grades is significantly different to playing in FG and many of the forum members would agree to this.

Before any transition into a higher "grade", just like when you are at school or when you are an apprentice, you are trained and developed to fulfil any of the potential a person can aspire to. The coaching and development staff of this great club has failed to do this which is why these players, and many others have lost the chance to "shine" consistently and build confidence and footy nous at a higher level.

Great teachers help people to attain achievable goals for later in their life and build up their confidence and knowledge. Our coaching staff totally lack any semblance of training and mentoring skills and have lacked this for far too long to keep them employed.

Sorry, rather than to say "lost him to the Roosters", I should have said lost out in trying to sign him and the Roosters - why not? - secured his services.

Dufty can or can't he play , the wingers same question ditto the centres & halves it would seem this forum has doubts about them all , for me the only question is can they respond to a decent coaching regime this is when we will know how much meat is in the pie until then we are f**king around with the pastry.

When Hunt is on, he is one of the most dangerous attacking halves in the game. I think he would benefit from not having to control the game and be able to play his natural attacking game from 5/8. As for being as creative as Keary? Maybe he could, especially when playing behind a strong forward pack. One thing Keary is very good at, is committing defenders before distributing the ball. This creates attacking opportunities.

I agree that it is a shame we missed out on Keary, when we almost signed him.

Thanks Frank for your answer. I agree with Keary being very good at committing defenders before passing the ball, he is quite good at this for being a "slight" guy. If Hunt does move to 5/8, lets hope that our forwards can be more dominant to help his natural abilities and enhance his confidence. Cheers

That is what we bought Norman to do...control the game with kicks and shape and let Hunt do his thing...but no... to say goodbye to gareth we move Norman out of position...should of put Widdop back to 1 if you dont want Dufty or on the bench if you are looking for 2020
besides...it was clear well before widdop came back that we were not going to make the 8 anyway so it does not matter what Mcfook does..and who cares now in 2019

We need to know what the coach's instructions are before trying to move forward on who should control the game. I believe under the current system there is no discretion; players must just follow what Mary wants.

I cast my mind back to the semi final against the Broncos last year when everone expected the Broncos to win and win well. It was clear that Mary was very surprised at our quality of play - very unexpected. I'd say the player were told to do their own thing or just decided to do their own thing. Whatever the case we performed really well - even without Widdop.

So a new head coach and coaching staff, a new pathways and recruiting system with new staff and the disbandment of the old boys club with professional administrators taking their place.
