Question for all you Old Timers

This is a not a mind bending question but years ago in the 70s and 80s when I first started going to Shark Park, when the first grade game was about to start out would come the referee and then the home team. After a moment or two then the away team would come out to a raft of boos.

But now, it is the away team that runs out first, then the home team and the referee out last.

Does anyone remember when they changed this and why they changed it?

I assume so that the away side feels intimidated by the home side coming out while they are there to see the crowd reaction.

Not an old fella, one of Newman's 'teeny boppers', but interesting to hear I didn't know that.. feels like more of a TV/Game Day production aspect than a mind game thing tbh... Also a big americanisation of sports thing goin' on in late 80s to 90s so could be inherited from NFL/etc ??

Its Polite to let the guests come out first. Let the Fans boo them , Let them watch the pumped up Sharks come out to wild cheering, and then let the miserable guest ba****ds get smashed into submission in a sharks frenzy in the first 10 minutes. At least thats how it should work.🤨

It was demanded by Sir Thomas Bishop, it was the Emperor Nasi Goring effect, he done it to keep the rabbits out ........ yeah to keep the rabbits out.
Thanks Quigs, I was actually counting on you being the old warhorse that you are, that you could back up my statement about what went on back then and maybe, just maybe have a little ole inkling of why it was changed.

The referee I remember most about being first out on the paddock was your mate Mr Hartley who was very theatrical when he used to blow that whistle and bounce out there.

Don't you remember that of have you totally lost all your memory cells?

That Little Fat Prick, that Lloyd Bridges Sea Hunt, it was his antics that had the coaches and commentators from that time going on about how he wanted to make the games he refed all about him.

Gawd he was a proppery for sure.

I dont remember the change, I do remember the boos. Never sat right with me really, even back then as a youngen. No idea why it changed and I dont think many took much notice tbh. If my mid 50's opinion counts for being an old timer.

I've been posting since the late 90's on the first ever forum, I think it was a Sharks run page. Thats the problem with getting on a bit you tend to forget things, I've been around since the late 90's, Did I tell you?

He even Pharked up radio commentary , With his and Peter Peters ranting and raving radio commentary shortly thereafter. Needs to be in NRL Hall Of Shame

Great clips there. I probably paid not much attention to sharks ,till Warren Fisher went there. That little 7 was everywhere.I reckon he would be a champion in any era.... Also got a bit of a thrill seeing john monie and Ken Madison. Too Bad that Messup Was such a bad commentator and left the door open for the SheeeeITe that followed
