Question to Management: Why Souths Logan?

I've been meaning to ask this question for some time.

What f**king advantage do we gain by throwing money into a feeder club in a state where any decent player will be courted by those clubs north of the border.

The Zillman situation is a good example where a qld'r will most prob have a desire to play for a club from his birth state, especially if family live there as well.

Even myself, a born and bred Canberran, might consider it after experiencing the warmer climate during the colder winter months.

We have a hard enough time atm retaining our juniors without exposing them to qld.

Bay if you want to address all these issues towards management & certain people within the Raiders Club why do you post it here?

Surely you could ring them or email them. At least merge all these into 1 thread please.

... and my suggestions will be taken on board ??...

FFS quinny they'd close down this forum and GH if they had their way ... I'm sure a forum like this could be linked to the official Raiders site but for supporters like myself who are critical of management and ask the questions that require answers that would most probably undermine their reputations and authority.

actually bay i think if you gave don a call or sent him off an email with everything you've posted in these threads he'd be more than happy to take them on board and perhaps even answer some of your questions. i think you should at least try.

I'd also ask the question why did we let one of our own go south (james woolford) and purchase another from north of the border.

Your James Woolfords are far easier to keep at the club then imports from qld.

No offence Azz but copy my questions and send them yourself ... I'll even let you take the credit for the changes that management make as a result of those questions.

My gripe is more with the questioning towards management...It's not like theyd log on and answer. Why Souths Logan seems a good idea/thread for the fans/posters to discuss.

imo the Souths Logan issue is a Canberra issue brought on by the NRL. Whenever the NRL puts one foot forward it stuffs something else up. The NYC is a great idea and should be here to stay, but replacing PL with it was a mistake.

I dont understand why both werent mandatory. Especially when you have teams sending players 1000km away for the weekend.

I would also look at having the QLD Cup and Jim Beam Cup merged to become a semi pro type national competition.

Coming back to Why Souths Logan? Players that are over 20 years old need to be challenged & simply playing in the Canberra comp would be pointless as it would be weaker than the standard the most professional comp (under NRL standard) can offer, which unfortunately for teams like Canberra is, the Queensland Cup.

nah im ok, i just thought that if you went to the little trouble of emailing the club and chatting to them about things you have a far better understanding of how they work. then you wouldn't have to sit here and type until your face turned blue.

We could have entered the same side in the equivalent Sydney comp ... we chose Souths Logan.

so you want me to seek an explanation of how things work from people who are responsible for losing our coach and a rising star all in the space of a week not to mention made an absolute meal of signing a player who has family in the region and have managed a club that hasnt seen sight of the top four for more years than one can endure ... interesting concept.

Btw I dont hold my breath while typing.

I'm not really sure Rob, I know Cronulla have the Southern Sydney Stingrays who are in the JBC.

I bought Big League while in GC last week & had a look at JBC sides, didnt see many names of note that play in the NRL.

Maybe others can shed some more info regarding the old PL teams ... I know that at one stage we were negotiating with Wests in the Sydney PL league.

Unless someone can convince me otherwise I'm still of the opinion that Souths Logan is not as beneficial to us as would be a club in the Sydney comp and in fact may be detrimental to retaining talent.

Have a look through the Raiders list of greats and see the traditional links between the Magpies and the Raiders..

Yes parra pete but the situation now is that there are 3 qld teams that those same players could offer their services to ... It's a different ball game and one that imo is not in our favour.

Why not Souths Logan Rob

It has worked well for the Storm having a feeder team in the Qld Cup

Our greatest player was a Qld'r remember from the same club (Brisbane Souths)

Gents you are missing the NSW Cup - the Priemier league replacement comp

The Sharks run NRL, NYC
NSW Cup - Cronulla Cobras
JBC - Southern Sydney Sharks

The other teams in the NSW Cup
NORTH SYDNEY BEARS - Souths
NEWTOWN JETS - Roosters
WENTWORTHVILLE - Parramatta
MANLY SEA EAGLES - Manly
CENTRAL NEWCASTLE KNIGHTS - Newcastle
AUCKLAND VOLCANS - Warriors
BULLDOGS - Canterbury
WINDSOR WOLVES - Penrith
CENTRAL COAST STORM - Melbourne
BALMAIN RYDE TIGERS - Tigers
WESTERN SUBURBS MAGPIES - Tigers
CRONULLA COBRAS - Cronulla

The QLD cup has
Northern Pride - Cowboys
Redcliffe/Easts/Wynumn - Broncos
Burleigh/Ipswich - Titans
Central Coast Comets - Cowboys and Broncos
Souths Logan - Canberra

St.George are the only team not to have a feeder club at this level.

So the question I suppose is why is there not a Canberra team in the NSW Cup. Finances is my guess, it was cheaper to go with Souths Logan than run up say the Fishwick Ferrats.

DB it might be working well for the Storm atm ... this will have to be tested over a period of time when the Storm might not be travelling to well ... the option for young qld talent will then be to play for the Broncs/GC/TV, close to family and friends, or move down south to a struggling club where exposure to league comes a distant last behind AFL.

I think it would have been almost impossible to have gained the services of Mal and Belch in 1985 had there been the three choices they could have now.

The added problem imo is that we are also exposing our own to what qld can offer them ... the talent scouts of the three qld clubs would be saying "thankyou" ... imo we are on a hiding to nothing.

Thanks for your input Mr Angry ... I think that gives us a better understanding of the matter.

I have a tendency to agree with your last sentence.
