Not sure if its been already answered but are all the games played during the world cup going to be considerd as test matches. And will Australia play in an away jersey for the irish game at limmerick?
I know that, that's why I said it. But a game between two nations is still an inter-national game isn't it?
The difference is this.
All tests are also internationals. These matches are played by two test nations.
All matches by non-test playing nations (or involving just one test playing nation) are not test matches, they are internationals.
This is the simple yet seemingly quite accurate definition we have used at RLP for differentiating between the games.
All teams since 1954 declared World Cup games as tests, except for Australia, who finally declared them (and all previous WC games they played) as tests in 1995.
All International games and test matches are played under the same rules. International fixtures that aren't tests have been officially recognised by the RLIF.
Hence why World Cup warm up games aren't declared as internationals or tests, as they aren't officially recognised or declared.
The whole process is needlessly complicated, but given the eligibility criteria, it's also very consistent with how the RLIF function nowadays it seems.
