The gal that I was referring to had a column in one of the papers , The Mirror or The Sun , I cannot recall which . In fact it may even had been one of the women's magazines of that time .

But naturally a lot of lonely or perhaps angry housewives would write to her , telling Dear Del about what a two timing s.o.a.b. their husbands were . Hell , some would even complain if poor hubby had a drink or two too many . Naturally Del would always come up with a practical solution to whatever the ailment may had been . I often wonder if my Ethel ever wrote to the hag , as she was always yakking on about her .

But to the point , I do believe that the ' editor at large ' more than fits the bill as to what Dear Del's husband would look like .
Firstly, your Ethel sounds like a wise woman marrying you.
Secondly, if ‘Dear Del’ was married to a man that looked like Buzz then she must have walked under a ladder whilst witnessing a black cat crossing a driveway as a Chinaman was killed.
Finally, ‘Editor at Large’ to describe Rothfield is quite apt because any editorial talent/journalistic integrity he ever had escaped a long time ago.

Graeme Langlands Public Tribute

The St George Illawarra Dragons and the Langlands family have announced there will be a special tribute and opportunity for the public to honour and celebrate the life of rugby league immortal Graeme Langlands at the Dragons' opening home game of the season at Jubilee Oval on Thursday, March 8.

"As a rugby league Immortal, who played and coached at the club in a career that spanned 14 seasons, it is appropriate that we provide the opportunity for fans to honour and celebrate the rugby league career of Graeme Langlands at Kogarah," Dragons CEO Peter Doust said.

"He played 227 games, holds the club point scoring record (1554), and as history shows is one of the most gifted rugby league players ever to play the game."

Langlands' daughter Monique also paid tribute to her father.

"We are devastated by the loss of dad," she said. "He fought to the very end after a very long illness, and it was a battle worthy of any champion.

"Dad was truly complete when playing the game that came so naturally to him and he loved rugby league with all his heart."

Dragons Chairman Brian Johnston also reflected on the player that was Graeme 'Changa' Langlands.

"Graeme Langlands will forever be remembered for iconic images of rugby league. He depicted in so many instances his magnificent sidestep that will forever be ingrained in the rugby league annals," Johnston said. "He inspired not only young kids to play rugby league but also fans to follow the game because of his magnificent competitive nature. That was not only reflected in his attacking game but also his fearless defence - which a lot of people forget about.

"One of the highest compliments paid to any player is that he was admired by opposing teams, players and supporters. Even if people weren't Dragons supporters, they'd go to games to see the famous 'Changa' play.

"From a Dragons perspective, Graeme was a brand within a brand that was synonymous with St George. You look at Provan, Gasnier, Raper and Langlands and the first thing you think of is premierships and successful people."

Dragons coach Paul McGregor acknowledged Langlands standing at the club and in the game.

"Graeme was an outstanding player. He was capable of playing multiple positions - in fact he is probably the best player ever to be able to adapt to a position. Changa was tough as nails and had the best sidestep anyone has ever seen," Dragons coach Paul McGregor said.

"On a personal note, he was always around to have a chat to as well. I was fortunate enough to cross Changa's path many a time, when I was younger and as a coach. He'd always be there telling you how it is, he didn't mince his words which was always great, and he'll be very sadly missed."

Dragons skipper Gareth Widdop acknowledged the importance of Langlands' legacy to the current Dragons squad.

"As St George Illawarra Dragons players, we understand and respect the importance of Graeme Langlands to the club's history and the legacy he leaves behind," Dragons skipper Gareth Widdop said.

"To have our Round 1 game against the Brisbane Broncos in honour of Graeme will certainly be a special occasion for not only Dragons members and supporters but also the players and fans of rugby league in general."

The funeral for family and friends of Graeme Langlands will take place in southern Sydney on Monday, January 29 with fans encouraged to attend the public tribute at Jubilee Oval on Thursday, March 8. Further details of the tribute will be announced in the coming weeks following further discussions with the Langlands family and the NRL.

Members of the rugby league community were among hundreds of mourners who gathered at a funeral service for former St George international Graeme Langlands at Woronora Memorial Park in Sydney's south on Monday.

Some of rugby league's biggest names were among those who paid their final respects to "Changa", including Keith Barnes, Bob McCarthy, Steve Mortimer and Mick Cronin, as well as Dragons stalwarts Craig Young, Rod Reddy, Graeme Wynn, Ricky Walford, Mark Coyne, Paul McGregor and Billy Smith.

NRL CEO Todd Greenberg was also in attendance for the service.

Langlands, who was one of the game's eight Immortals, died on January 20 in a Sutherland nursing home after a long illness in which he had battled dementia and alzheimers disease. He was 76.

The former St George Dragons star made 227 first-grade appearances between 1963 and 1976, playing in four premiership-winning teams for the club and becoming their record scorer with 1554 points from 86 tries and 648 goals.

He also played 45 Tests for Australia at centre, wing and fullback and captained the Kangaroos between 1970 and 1975.

Langlands was named rugby league's fifth Immortal in 1999, joining former Dragons teammates Reg Gasnier and John Raper, who were given the honour in 1981, along with Clive Churchill and Bob Fulton.

The Dragons have announced a tribute to Langlands and the opportunity for fans to honour and celebrate him at the opening match of the NRL season against Brisbane Broncos at Jubilee Oval on March 8.

Just caught some of the tv coverage of Chang's funeral ~~ heard Billy Smith, Bob McCarthy and Keith Barnes talk briefly.

RIP Chang .....thanks for the memories .....and there were a lot of them for a young central tablelands kid listening to your heroics on a Saturday afternoon in the late 60's on the radio in the shed ~~

I was honoured to meet all 3 Dragons Immortals in 2008 & managed to get all 3 autographs on the inside cover of my prized Graeme Langlands book....Larrikin & Saint. Chang was so humble and funny in commenting ....."So I wondered who bought that 2nd copy of my Book" Mario Fenech from the NRL said to me later, one day that book will be worth a fair bit of money. I said it won't be for sale. LEGENDSIMG_0171.JPG

IMG_0172.JPG On the same day, I also asked the 3 gentlemen if I could get their picture together at my work place. They were so friendly and accomodating. Many of the younger Airport Ramp Staff asked me later....."who were those old blokes". I told them to get a life & grow some respect towards Rugby League Immortals. They were all gobsmacked once I explained who they were :white_check_mark:

When I was a kid I had a Graeme Langlands branded pig skin which I then got him to sign.
I used to go to Peakhurst Park and practise place kicking with it and then would play forcing's back with my brother and a few mates.
Kicked it and kicked it some more then replaced the bladder and the lace several times until it finally wore out, I sure wish I still had it today.
