The Big Lebowski and Boogie Nights are my two favourite roles of his, but he's a talent the likes of whicj we won't see for a long while.

I'd heard of him but could never put a face to the name, and now I've realised that he was in Moneyball and The Big Lebowski.

RIP

To be honest, I'd never heard of him until this morning's news.

Just checked his filmography on IMDB.

The only movies I've seen him in are Capote and Red Dragon, both of which I enjoyed.

It seems that Hoffman took his role as Truman Capote a bit too seriously. Their lifestyles regarding substance abuse are quite similar.

His IMDB page reads like a must see list of modern feature motion pictures.

What a remarkable capacity to choose good material and have the ability to bring that material to life this man had.

It is only starting to dawn on me just what has been lost. Smack remains still a most vile substance.

Truly a case of not knowing what we have until it is gone.

How in the serious f**k can someone not know who Philep Seymour Hoffman is? I mean sure you can forget somebody winning an oscar for best actor.... but the man introduced the term "shart" into pop culture!

Terrible waste of talent, can't think of a bad movie he's ever been in.

Will be interesting to see what they do now to finish the hunger games given he is a vital character and doesn't exactly have a nice body double who also acts out there like they lucked into with the Harry Potter franchise and Dumbledore

Exactly Danish especially on this website, I would have thought the man who popularised the worth "Shart" would be well known.

But in some ways its a testament to his acting that a few don't know who he was because he got into the role, rather than going to watch Tom Cruise be Tom Cruise etc.

I wonder if the Hunger Games stuff has already been filmed (which they seem to do these days)

He was also the main villain in Mission Impossible 3.

RIP Phil, my thoughts are with your family. Another loss because of ElephantJuice. Such a waste.

According to IMDB they are still shooting the 4th hunger games movie (pulling a twilight and splitting the last book over 2 movies) so they might still have some of his scenes to go.

Considering most of the actors were already too old to be playing their characters in the first movie they are going to look downright ridiculous playing teenagers by the time that series is finished.

I think the last 2 moviea have all but finished filming so most of his scenes should be done. Warner Bros have a lot to answer for with how they split the last Harry Potter movie
