I enjoyed Hoffman as an actor - one of the best supporting guys I've seen and could hold his own in a lead role too.

Shame to see him go the way he did but I'll continue to enjoy the work he presented.

he was a father, husband, family member, and talented actor above all else. Show some compassion. He got what he deserved playing with heroin but deadset some people sound like they are bitter over the blokes death.

How would screen actors not become famous simply through being a screen actor. That is pretty silly Springs. They become famous because people are watching them act. If I saw I don't know Jason Alexander walking down the street I would be like oh thats the guy who played George on hit TV show Seinfeld because I would recognise him from watching it.

I know how they become famous I said they don't deserve the fame and attention they get. FFS you love taking things and assuming something else entirely.

I'm obviously not talking about seeing someone down the street and recognising them, I'm talking about all the celebrity worship and millions of dollars they get.

Feel sorry for his family.

Would you rather studios paid actors minimum wage and kept all the profits for themselves instead?

When you create a product that gets bought by millions for $15 a go, someone is going to get filthy rich. Might as well be the people who create the bloody thing. Actors at least tend to be a hell of a lot more giving with their money than the studios would be.

He should have thought about his kids before he stuck the needle in his arm. RIP, but I feel more sorry for the family.

I agree with this. He really screwed over his family by f**king around with ElephantJuice. No excuse for that.

Having said that, I was a massive fan of Hoffman's work.
One of the best actors I've ever seen and just continued to be in good movies.
Even in movies that weren't very good (Along Came Polly; The Boat That Rocked; Flawless), he was usually the best thing in them.

I'm sad that I won't get to see him do any new work, but at least I have his vast library of movies from before he died.
