I thought Gids looked alright (save for one forward pass which, lets be honest, he wasn't the only offender of) before he moved to fullback. His place is definitely hooker or bench hooker. Nothing else. If Clydsdale is back from his injury then we need to get him in there immediately I agree. I have a feeling we'll keep seeing Waddell though (*sigh*) given he was better today or maybe him and Redman if Gids is out next week.

I'd love to see Mamo and Minto given a run too if Boyd and Roberts are out. I know it's early but round two when the pressure isn't too severe at home would probably be an ideal time for them.

As already said, it's pretty hard to get too upset about that given what ended up going down, particularly injury-wise.

First half even though we were bloody rusty with ball-in-hand I thought our defence picked up from where it left off at the end of last year. Some nice scrambling and the Panthers had a lot of territory but couldn't convert.

Second half the wheels obviously fell off, not surprising really when we were down to 14 and Gids and Boyd were among those missing. The try right after HT was the most disappointing, soft as shit that one.

Not a whole lot of positives individually, but Dobson probably exceeded expectations. Smith was his usual rock-solid self. Pretty much everyone else had some nice touches with some rubbish thrown in. Uate wasn't great, but not wrist-slittingly bad. We had very little go-forward ball or play resembling set plays to allow him, or our whole backline for that matter, to run with any sort of momentum or space. We lost the territory battle pretty much the whole game TBH. Probably missed Mullen there. Waddell tried his guts out, I can't fault him today.

Awful display and really really really unlucky with injuries. Tough to fault the 2nd half too much considering the 1000 position changes that had to take place.

Disappointing but we won't see that again next week, no chance. The players will be filthy on themselves and look to make amends

We were very good defensively in the first half but the heat got to us with only 15 men in the end. I think Gidley is done as a player as much as that hurts to say. Seriously delusional footbalker when he talks rep. Not a hope. Mase looks evey bit a soon to be 34 yr old footballer . We will be a different side next week. Dobson has plenty of promise. The ball to Scott for the try was class.

Oh and I wouldn't get too excited about an easy game against the Raiders next week. They have been excellent against the Cowboys in Townie so far

I don't know why anyone would think the Raiders will be easy to beat. They've got some great young talent in that team, as always. The Raiders can be very inconsistent, but they can lay on a spanking when they're in the mood. We have learned this many times in the past first hand... and their current squad is no different - full of young kids with potential who will either get caught with their balls in a dogs mouth or go on to leave the club for greener pastures.

I missed the game as I was playing in a cricket semi final. From what I heard, was that we lost basically our whole spine due to injuries, plus we were leading at half time. This being the case, I'm a bit surprised with the wrist slitting that is going on in this forum. The roosters were poor on Thursday (with their spine playing the whole 80 minutes), but are you willing to write them off and call for wholesale changes? I doubt it.. Put the razors away ladies and gents. It's only been one game after a 6 month break and from what I hear we ended up playing with a bench consisting of one player.

Nothing excuses some of the terrible attempts at tackles. There was a lack of commitment from some players today and it was plain to see. The injuries were shocking and can contribute to a loss but are no excuse for shirt grabbing efforts by quality defenders.

The 48 knock ons in the first half probably has something to do with the negativity

I'll be watching the replay tomoz to get a better understanding, so I can get my head around all the negativity. But to lead at halftime after a mountain of handling errors says to me that we must have defended well and been committed?

Yeah, also the fact that Penrith dropped the ball 38 times in the first half

It really was a painful game to watch for many reasons

Pretty much gave the Panthers the three points today...

Pros:
Not many, people already mentioned them

Cons:
Too many

If we put that kind of game in round 16 or something, I'd broken another tv. However, only round one.

The worst part of watching our team, is that all I'm thinking is: "please no more injuries.." Every tackle I'm just waiting for the player to get up... I'm so afraid that we're gonna get another injury, I cant enjoy the game.

sorry guys, just got back from the future... we sucked

Knights verdict: we lacked direction without Mullen. Tyront going off injured didn't help. The fwds tried and we had our chances but we just couldn't get over the line without our key playmaker

Panthers verdict: soward kicked us out of the game. Their lack of a big name superstar means they were a threat all over the park. They wont cause the roosters or souths any problems but they gave us plenty of headaches.

lemme know if youse want me to go back to the future again to see next week's result
