Aside from dropping gidley all together, fullback is the best possible position he can play. So if he's gonna play I guess fullback is the lesser of all evils.

The thing that makes dropping Gidley to the bench harder is that by doing that he's getting his captaincy stripped too. I mean he obviously deserves it, but unfortunately it's not always that simple with long serving clubmen.

Just put him at lock. Doesn't handle the ball as often. If he stays on the edge he has the speed, passing skills (occasionally) and defence to be pretty decent.

The role of a lock has changed a lot over the last couple of seasons. The bill pedan, brad fitler matt hilder type players are now a thing of the past. Generally locks are either another front rower ie Gallen or a second rower who plays in the middle of the field ie Jeremy smith. I don't know if Gidley is suited to that position in the current era. All I know is, there is one position that he can actually handle and that is fullback. Apart from some games at 5/8 many years ago, he has been out of his depth in every position he's played.
