Overall beaten but not disgraced. But BJ should get a rocket up him for being a show off!! Two hands for beginners.

Owners of EPL clubs are in a completely different situation to Tinkler and his NRL club. EPL clubs can be relegated if finishing in the bottom four. The Newcastle Knights will be in the NRL in 2014 no matter where they finish this season.

There's also a tiny financial difference between the two competitions as well. Have a look at he prize money on offer for the winner of the EPL. Even the 20th placed team takes a million dollars in prizemoney. Not only that but each team received 33 million pounds of Premier League money and millions of dollars of Live TV money.

QPR finished last in 2013 and received 40 million pounds ($65 million Aussie) made up of prizemoney, Live TV money and their Premier League share.

I think we should wait until the next game when we have Bedsy back and Gower in the 7 before we write the season off. Experienced players like those 2 know what works for teams and if Bennett's dull style isn't working they won't tolerate it. We won't have to be so conservative when we have a real halfback steering the ship.

Hopefully WB realises he's not the only person who's tasted success at the club and considers how the players feel they should be playing. It's really only playing style that's letting us down as it doesn't suit the team. We need to head in another direction and I think Bedsy and Gower at 7 will provide that for us.

Our forwards dominate most weeks imo so all we need is direction and creativity and I believe we already have the players to provide that if we stop playing so negatively.

Watching us today, we're really not a "dull" football side at all. We can play some good footy when we want to.

Our issue that we always play down to the level of the poorer teams we're playing. We're playing a shit and uninspiring team, we turn in shit and uninspiring football. Even though we lost today, if we played like we did today consistently we'd be in the top four. Frustrating stuff.

SH!T.

Just a few notes (some already mentioned)
- why do refs call 6 again when the ball is kicked straight into an opponents legs? (This happened in Origin against QLD also)
- I feel Joey did the right thing with his botched try. Tough call but that was his best option to get the ball over the line and not in touch (unfortunately not the safest way).
- I'm in love with Mullo. I'm glad he's not chosen for Origin for QLD's sake.
- I think opponents have/will purposely give penalties away if we are on a roll and in their 30 (early in the game). We always take the 2 and for them it's better than risking 6.
- I really wish we could start winning these close games.

Taking the shot at goal every time you get a penalty on the opposition line is pretty dull footy to me. You just don't get many chances like that, especially against Melbourne.

We have enough good players in our side to make the most the most of those opportunities. I can't really remember a game where I thought "gee I'm glad we took the 2" this year. Opposition teams know we will do that so are more likely to give a penalty away on their own line because the consequence is not that worrying to them.

The way WB wants us to play is weak as pi#s and inspires no confidence in the players and is ignorant of the quality in the side.

On the "taking or not taking the two" option, pretty sure we knocked it back against Cronulla (in a game we lost by a point), so it doesn't always work ...

 Well for starters we beat Penrith because of a penalty goal.

And in all honesty I wasn't even referring to taking the two. I was referring to our style of attack that a lot of people around here are constantly bagging. What exactly about our style today was weak as piss? From where I stood we looked great in attack but some crucial errors by our younger players (Roberts, Sims, BJ and Waddell) cost us.

Like I said, we've shown on a few occasions now that we can play a great style of footy. We just cant seem to bring it when we're playing poorer teams and we play down to their level and play shit football in attack especially. To me this doesn't say that there's anything wrong with the style Bennett is teaching us, but we have a massive issue with consistency where there is a major gap between our best and worst footy. I'm hoping that once we get Bedsy back, and Gower takes over halfback we'll start putting together our better footy on a more consistent basis.

Bottom line: if we played like we did today against most teams we win. Simple as that. We just need to start making sure we're doing it when we need to. That will be a massive challenge for us.

Don't want to ruin you're parade but

It's the bottom 3 that get relegated.

The top teams not only get more prize money but they get to enter the Champions League or Europa League. Europa League isn't huge money but the extra games provide revenue on match day and TV sponsorships.

Champions League is also a huge deal. I think a team makes 60 odd million pounds just for being in the competition (comp money, tv deals etc).

That's something to take note of too, with them making only 4 mistakes and us only getting 3 penalties, we didn't have many opportunities close to their line with a full set of 6.

A bit of promise was shown today, but as usual, it's about showing the same effort week in week out.

That was the one time we should have taken the 2. My opinion is you never take the 2 when you've got momentum especially early on, taking the 2 is a clear indication we'll be trying to grind out a result today and that approach has been spectacular unsuccessful this year.

We can cry and sook all we like about "oh Cronk wasn't there so we should have beaten them", but the fact is in the second half in particular I think we only had a handful of tackles inside their 20m zone. It's very difficult to score points when the opposition don't give away too many penalties and you're constantly bringing the ball off your own line ...

Their kicking game in the final 40 was incredible.

They were able to either force repeat sets, or turn the ball over on the 1m line. With solid defence against a bunched side it basically the same result.

They never threatened to give us a free 20m.

Roberts intercept pass was a killer. Leilua and McManus had Waqua (spelling?) out of position two on one. The pass sticks we win.

That may be more to do with Melbourne's pressure from up and in defence than a total stuff up from Roberts. I'd say it was their plan to force him into making hurried decisions. He'll learn from it.
