he NSW Origin hopes of St George Illawarra prop Michael Weyman look to be over after he was today charged with a Grade 3 Dangerous Throw.

Weyman is facing a four match ban should he plead guilty, and will risk a six match suspension if he decides to contest the charge.

The suspension would see him miss Origin III at ANZ Stadium on July 7.

Meanwhile, Knights prop Ben Cross will avoid suspension for a Grade 1 Contrary Conduct charge with an early guilty plea.

NSW State of Origin prop Michael Weyman could miss six games after copping a serious dangerous tackle charge from the NRL match review committee.
Weyman will miss four matches, including State of Origin III, if he enters the early guilty plea but will be sidelined for six if he unsuccessfully defends the grade three charge at the judiciary.
The St George Illawarra forward was placed on report for an ugly 48th-minute spear tackle on Wests Tigers fullback Wade McKinnon during last Friday night's 34-10 Dragons victory at WIN Jubilee Oval.
The Dragons have until 12pm on Tuesday to decide whether to challenge the charge.
They are already down one regular first grade front-rower in Dan Hunt, who is out for the season with a ruptured Achilles.
Newcastle prop Ben Cross will escape a ban with the early plea after he was charged with making contact with a referee.

It wasn't as bad as LOD's.

But this again goes to re-enforce the rule that punishments for Origins indescretions are much lighter than for an NRL round

I thought it was worse than LOD's. McKinnon landed on his head, the only reason it may not of looked so bad is because the hard bugger jumped straight up and battled on, rather than playing dead like a majority of players would of done.

Maybe the contact was worse but Wades natural motion played a massive part in the tackle. It was like Heighnos tackle against the Raiders except he went a little higher and landed worse

LOD really drove the tackle IMO and wrestled to put him in that position.

Boyd was more verticle than Mckinnon.

There was momentum in Weymans, LOD just Drove

Feel sorry for Weyman, his behaviour on field has improved 10 fold in the last 2 years!

I dunno... it looked pretty bad.

The only thing going for Weyman is that he stood up straight away and said "sorry mate" to McKinnon.

Dreadful looking tackle - deserves 4 weeks.

At least the Origin selectors are freed from having to pick him this time around

I think his previous loadings count against him and increase the length of the sentence?

We're on the edge for props now. Prior, Merrin, Saffy & Green. They can do the job, but they need to step up. I think Merrin will show just how good he's going to be over the next month.

Whilst I agree that it was an accident and there was no malice, I don't think that is a good enough reason for him to get off lightly. It is not as if LOD's tackle was intentional, love him or hate him, he didn't want to drive Boyd's head into the ground.

Weyman was alone in the tackle, whereas one or two other players contributed to LOD's tackle. It was a careless tackle and could of easily resulted in a very serious injury. I expect a guilty plea, because I really do think they will be hard pressed getting a downgrade.

I do feel sorry for Weyman as it was obvious that he regretted the tackle. He will take better care next time.

Why couldn't Brett White get cited so we do not have to watch that gormless spastic denegrate the Blues jumper ever again?

Weyman will come out of his 4 weeks off a much better player, he's been playing injured for too long.

So while it's harsh, as a dragons fan it doesn't bother me (Our lack of depth in the front does a touch though)

LOD's tackle was way worse than Weymans. At least Weyman acted like a gentleman afterwards and apoligised unlike LOD. He didnt deserve more time off than LOD imo but yeah.....

A tad harsh imo Weyman got caught and the tackle got messy. Weyman will be fresh after the rest though.

weighman's suspension is spot on. (although i recall 25 years ago, that was regarded as a good tackle & we used to try & do that to all opponents.)

but in comparison, o'donnell's punishment was nowhere near sufficient.
