Woo. Good win by Flegg last night.

Good start to the week.

If Balmain gets up in Premeier League it will at least lessen the hurt from what will happen in first grade

Sharks v Wests Tigers preview

Wednesday, August 15, 2007

http://nrl.com/News/MatchReports/MatchReportsArticle/tabid/336/NewsId/6629/Default.aspx
Watch out Wests Tigers: Ricky Stuart’s boys are fired up and determined to make life miserable for their remaining opponents in the run to the finals. And who knows – another defeat here and the Tigers could fall off the top-eight radar altogether.
The Sharks broke a woeful seven-game losing streak with a surprise golden point win over the Eels away last week.
While they have given up on the finals they figure they deserve to get as far away from the wooden spoon as they can – and if they play like they did against the Eels there’s no reason they can’t finish 2007 with three wins and climb to 24 points, which should see them finish around 10th.
This is a danger game for the Wests Tigers. They’ve lost four of their past five and are struggling for continuity.
Tim Sheens probably didn’t factor on losing one, let alone both their past two games to the Titans and Roosters, and they now find themselves clinging precariously to the cut-off zone in eighth place on 22 points – with just a points differential of 14 separating them from ninth-placed South Sydney.
Watch out Sharks: All eyes will be on Brett Hodgson to get the Wests Tigers back on track.
He was simply superb from limited opportunities last week – his around-the-back pass to set up Liam Fulton’s try and snatch the lead back from the Roosters late in the second half was all class.
Against the chooks he made 13 runs for 132 metres, five tackle breaks and a line break.
The Tigers are down on confidence but if Hodgson leads by example they’ll all lift.
Watch out Wests Tigers: Former Tiger Isaac DeGois will be salivating at the chance to show off against his old club.
The hooker rates as one of the best buys of the season and continues to turn heads with his attacking probes from dummy half (he ranks 11th in the NRL with 88 runs) and punishing defensive technique – all the attributes Ricky Stuart looks for in a top-notch forward.
He was unstoppable and in everything last week, averaging 16 metres for each of his 11 runs, making 34 tackles (five of them one-on-one), busting eight tackles, making two line breaks and three offloads.
Where it will be won: In the air. Cronulla have scored 21 of their 63 tries from kicks including two against the Eels last week. At 33 per cent, that’s easily the most effective strike rate in the league.
Additionally, the Sharks have the best kick defusal rate of any team, thwarting opposition kicks 84 per cent of the time.
By comparison the Tigers score from kicks 20 per cent of the time.
They may go to the air here but they’d be better served looking elsewhere to score points – Benji Marshall needs a big one.
He needs to inject himself often and confuse the outside backs, utilising Hodges and Chris Lawrence on the fringes.
The History: Played 14; Sharks 4, Wests Tigers 9, drawn 1. Yikes – the Tigers have won the past seven encounters, including a 46-6 shellacking at Toyota Park in their 2005 premiership year.
The Tigers hold a 3-2 advantage in the Shire, with one game drawn.
The home side hasn’t beaten the Tigers since scraping home 28-26 at Toyota Park in 2003.

Conclusion: Self-doubt will be an issue for the Tigers. They’ve come a long way to be poised for a good end to the year but when you see a guy like Benji Marshall blowing up at his team-mates after spilling an easy pass, as he did last week, things aren’t all good out west.
It’s likely Ricky Stuart will be priming his forward pack to dominate their opposition who, while tradesman-like, aren’t renowned as a big, punishing unit.
Chris Heighington was a willing contributor last week (19 runs for 123 metres and 37 tackles) but he needs more help from the likes of Todd Payten, Keith Galloway and Bronson Harrison.
Returning after several weeks out with a broken thumb, Greg Bird made all the difference to the Sharks last week, making 12 determined runs for 138 metres.

The State of Origin representative has been devastating this season and his partnership with Paul Gallen was instrumental to their early season success.
Now the Sharks have stopped the rot, they might just go on with it in front of what’s sure to be a passionate home crowd.
Match officials: Referee – Paul Simpkins; Sideline Officials – Paul Holland & Rod Lawrence; Video ref – Bill Harrigan.
Televised: Foxsports 3 – Live 5.30pm.

No we're very consistant we lost 7 in a row. I think the Sharks are starting to find thier feet in a few key positions.. albiet too bloody late. Injuries can help a side out in the long run. The Broncos will be a strong side again next year for example.

a lot of people under-rate Flanagan theres a reason why we resigned him over DeGios and when farah was half Flanno came on and provoided instant impact in both hes games this year

Gibbs will be a huge loss hes been in good form making over 100 metres and 25-30 tackles a game

Whatuira shouldnt be on the bench though he doesnt pass enough and when he does its awful
