A sad day for sure. Cooky has been a huge part of our club for nearly ten years now and there's no doubt that he was a big contributor to the success we had throughout that period. He's been a fantastic servant to our club as both a great player, a teammate and a clubman. He's one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet and bleeds Red and Green. Certainly a sad day.
I can understand the uneasiness of the situation. I too have a few doubts if they plan for Pete to fully take over. I think he's going to be fine in time. But is he ready for 27 weeks of quality back-to-back like Cook? I'm not sure. That's a bit of a worry but we do have to trust Wayne, he knows what he's doing.
I also think we have to accept the reality that Cook is no longer in his prime and his effectiveness has been waning for a few years now. His output no longer matches what we're paying him, and I think that's the main reason for this.
While there is a little but of uneasiness, it's still a win-win for both clubs. We now have salary cap space and still have a decent enough hooker. James Hooper estimates that we may have about $1m to spend.
Thank you for your service Cooky, but it is time. We wish you all the best.
