Moley is reporting that Hull Kingston Rovers are close to signing Jason Clark and Sam Tagataese. If this is true, I'm very happy for Jason Clark. Top bloke and deserves to finish out his career the way he wants too. It would've been hard for him to cement a spot in the 17 in the coming years. One of the most loyal players Souths have had over the past decade.

We can't afford to lose Clark right now.

His experience is important....

Too many young ones who are rookies...... we all saw how that turned out at the Knights these past couple of seasons....

You really confuse me sometimes R20. Especially with the players that you think are duds and not duds.

Besides Clark isn't actually apart of the leadership group. Players like Farah, Sutton, GI and Surgess are. Whilst his experience is invaluable id say we have a fair amount of experience in the forwards. It's time to make way for some of the U20's props like Johnstone and Rodwell. I'd also say Clarks departure would pave the way for Martin to enter first grade. They both play similar roles.

As DKOR said if it is to offer Angus more I'm fine with that....

When Madge was there he said Clark was apart of the leadership group....

I just believe Clark is better than Nicholls and Turner for example....

Once I've seen players play next season I'll let you know for sure if we have duds aka NSW Cup players........

I have to see some of these young blokes more......

Some will be ready and some won't I reckon....

I'm quite sure now Turner will be playing off the bench as a prop more often than not...

Ahh I didn't know that. Anyway there is a fair bit of experience in the pack.

There are some really good players there R20. Much better than what's on the market.

I actually don't think Turner will make the 17 over Nicholls. If he does it'll be as a bench second rower but that'll only be if Fuimaono is playing centre or injured.

You really think Nicholls will get in over Turner?? Wow........

Nicholls hasn't really made it properly yet in first grade at Canberra or the Storm...

I'm interested to see how Talakai will go off the bench when required..... has his tackling improved is the big one??

That better be why.....

I am fine if that's the reasoning....

We'd have just about finalized our roster for 2017 now but the real bonus we have in negotiating with Angus is that we are the only ones who can offer him more money for 2017. The other guys are all offering contracts for 2018 onwards.

If Angus needs a significant boost for this year to enable him to stay then it would have to be at the expense of someone else in the squad and so it makes sense that we would release another forward.

You'd have to think that Jason would be on something like $350 - $400k. Release him, sign a fringe player for the minimum wage and you've got $150 - $200k that you can offer Angus on top of his current deal for 2017.

I just hope that if we are doing such a deal with Angus, we are locking him up for another 3 years on top of this one.

Don't want to have to go through this whole process again anytime soon.

We Have 37 players in the top squad. We don't need to replace Clark at all if he goes.

I don't think either of them will make the top 17 if I'm being honest but I'd say Nicholls has a better chance than Turner. The prop rotation isn't set in stone yet and I think Nicholls is a natural prop whereas Turner is a makeshift prop. Turner goes much better at second row than prop and I think that's where he'll play if needed. However the second row is practically set in stone.

I could see something like this

8. Tom
9. Cook
10. Musgrove
11. Surgess
12. Crichton
13. Murray

14. Sutton
15. Fuimaono
16. George Burgess
17. Nicholls

My preference though would be Fuimaono to centre and Martin into the top 17. Rodwell and Johnstone will probably force their way in somewhere with good performances.

I think you mean 2018 mate hahaha....

Then looking ahead to 2019 onwards.

Yes it would make sense to up him for next season.

I would say Clark is on about 250k but of course it's all guess work. You could be right.

I reckon we'd promote Rodwell on the minimum 100-125k wage which frees up 150k extra for Angus....

Yep we must keep him after all this and it seems our club is doing everything possible...

Mind you rumours were Farah is on around the 600k mark for this season coming so him going after next season give us options too....

Playing Sam in the back row is and will be a big mistake imo......

I've given reasoning before so I don't wanna go through it all again...

No no no no no........

Well my preferred lineup is

8. Tom
9. Cook
10. Sam
11. Fuimaono
12. Crichton
13. Murray

14. Sutton
15. Martin (provides coverage of hooker and lock)
16. George Burgess
17. Musgrove

The coverage of that forward pack is insane. If George Burgess and Musgrove don't perform then make way for Johnstone and Rodwell.
