Is a player with darker skin more easily dropped when their performance is below par than an Anglo Saxon player?
We have seen several instances where players who have performed on the field not get selected for rep duties ie mundine/blacklock/peachey and the list goes on. However, does it not seem the nrl have a higher tolerance for the incompetence of players with a "white" background when they are struggling.
Jamie soward helped my team (unfortunately for now the dragons ..) To its first premiership in years. Something the much hyped Barrett never was able to do. Yet Barrett was consistently selected for rep duties. Instead we showed him the door and brought in the biggest hack aka widdop. I'm curious...had Jamie played as badly as widdop. Had Jamie shown as big a lack a passion as widdop, would he have lasted as long?
Remember...we booted him not long after he helped us get into a final with amazing kicking and a clutch field goal. He helped set up the first try in the gf. He hit sideline conversions. He kicked us out of trouble . yet we boot him???
He then goes to the panthers. Gets them within a whisker of a final. (Again with a field goal). And they drop him?? Again I ask...what is Peter Wallace doing to keep himself on the team?
There seems to be a difference in how players are treated. Both in the media and the nrl. The burden for a player with darker skin to stay in a team is much higher.
That's my view. What do you guys think?
