I'm not sure he has as many flaws to his game as people continually make out. Once again, he has been a victim of playing in a shite coached team, just like many others in our squad.
In that respect, his achievements are even more astounding.
To break this record tbh is incredible taking all that into account.
Don’t remember that defence was a big issue whe he played outside Takarangi, Jennings or even Opacic , it went to the dogs starting the seasons he played next to Waqa Blake and others.

Whatever was being taught, seems when his centre jammed in, he was also forced in and we saw the end result.

Holding his position in attack has meant he is there to score, and that’s why he is almost always in the top 5 try scorers even with the chase the collision mantra.

Listen to John Muggletons theory on this. TCT Podcast.

He gave some insight into why rugby attacks from scrums more often than league does, basically the attack knows exactly where the defence will be at a scrum. But then he fails to see the link to why rugby league edge defences fail. The obvious answer is that they succeed when the middle is able to push across to help, and they fail when the middle has its own problems and can’t get there in time. He seems to think the problem starts and ends with the wingers.

By giving away the penalty, he robbed himself of time in possession so that he could have scored more tries. Also during suspension he loses match fitness so takes a bit longer to get back into scoring tries post-suspension.
Great explanation, 84 peanuts.

So what are we now at end of season

1 - Luke Burt - 124
2 - Jarryd Hayne - 113
3 - Brett Kenny - 110
4 - Maika Sivo - 104
5 - Clint Gutherson - 96

So Gutho needs 4 more next year to get too a 100 tries for Parramatta and Sivo if he stays is a chance of going past Luke Burt.

I'd be happy for Sivo to stay half a season to get past Hayne, and then depart early for his next contract :).

Will be interesting to see how many tries Gutho gets next season playing in a different position. Hopefully also gets into the top three before he calls time or leaves to a final contract.

So Sivo has finished on 104 tries which will leave him 4th of all-time.

I suspect Gutho won't make the century now unless he stays on in 2025.

So this thread will be nearly done.

We won't have anyone else trying to crack 100 tries for Parramatta anytime soon.

Is it wrong that "Thanks Captain Obvious" came to mind when I read this?

Maybe Gutho will remain for the first four or so weeks of the season to crack his Eels 100, before being released early to join his 2026 club?
