Radiohead: Boring, Over-rated or just Lame?

I've been listening to the bootlegs of the Sydney shows they did this year and the Kid A/Amnesiac stuff live is just amazing - Idioteque, The National Anthem , How To Disappear Completely, Everything In Its Right Place, Pyramid Song and I Might Be Wrong were just incredible live. Now if you have those songs on the one album - it would go close to being the best album of this decade.

Without Musical Reinvention or Experimentation we wouldn't have The Beatles for starters - where on earth would we be without them? I'm certainly not suggesting Radiohead are as influential as The Beatles, but I would suggest for sure we would not have bands such as Coldplay, Oasis, or Muse without Radiohead "reinventing" their music (I would prefer evolving, but whatever).

Well right there you just destroyed any reasoning for giving them any credit whatsoever.

Radiohead are quality. I can't say I've really enjoyed their 2 latest releases, but their work on the Bends and OK Computer made them one of the bands of the 90s without doubt.

Say what you want about them, but music would be at least 5 years behind where we are now without them.

what are you talking about? emo and 70's throwback bands are the big thing at the moment.

You should note that i said that over 2 years ago. Ripping off Led Zeppelin wasn't that big a few years ago...

Electronic music, or modern day rock using elements of Electronic music would not exist or be modernly acceptable without Kid A - thats a fact (no one would have the guts to try it without risking dollars and/or credibility besides Radiohead).

Ok now you're stretching it. They're a decent band with a couple of strong albums.

There's plenty of other great music out there. They would seem to be quite over-rated based on some of the FOR comments in this thread.

I think you are probably underestimating how influential OK Computer and Kid A is.

I have no problems with people not liking Radiohead. They aren't everyone's cup of tea. But bagging them on the basis that they haven't had a commercial hit since Creep (meaning commercial radio doesn't play them) is somewhat ignorant.

 Yeah give artists like Aphex Twin, Moby and Massive Attack and others no credit now.

And bands like Coldplay, Muse and Oasis are more reminiscent of Pre Kid A Radiohead.

You are naming blatant dance acts rather than a cross-over act that is combining different genre's.

Where were you guys two years ago with your opinions any way? :p

Blatant dance acts?? Are you daffy?

Radiohead's one of my favourite bands but you're giving them far too much credit. Kid A being as popular as it was was an acheivement but what they were doing was hardly ground breaking and has hardly been a blueprint for much since besides their own sound. The Smashing Pumpkins did it before Radiohead did.

I would have thought that Aphex Twin/Moby/Massive Attack share more in common with Chemical Brothers/Basement Jaxx/Daft Punk than they do with Muse/Coldplay/et al. Comparing Aphex Twin to Radiohead just isn't quite balanced.

I read the comments - that I made 27 months ago - and I thought they were a tad full on but I'll stand by them. They have been influential since OKC. I could have deleted them like other posters here...
