Canberra has approached former Queensland and Australian playmaker Jason Smith, now playing in England with Hull, about a return to the NRL.
Smith last played in the premiership in 2000 and the Raiders are looking at the five-eighth/lock as a short term solution to their problems in the halves.
"We have had a couple of discussions," Canberra chief executive Simon Hawkins said today.
"We're going to see what happens over the next couple of days."
