Raiders Game - Pros and Cons

There are a bunch of discussions going on so I thought I'd consolidate on one thread. My thoughts on the Raiders Game:

Pros:

- The attitude of our team has completely changed from last year. We showed hunger, desperation and took zero excuses. The old Tigers would have rolled over but we held on by our teeth.
- Austin was fantastic as a stand in fullback.
- Anasta played to a FG Standard
- Brooks and Anasta played a bit more free flowing in terms of sides of the field (which I really enjoyed seeing)
- Tupau was explosive. Really aggressive and has found his excellent form again
- We didn't lose

Cons:
- Tedesco Injured
- Simona Injured
- Nofoluma Injured
- Sue Injured
- Lawrence had to keep switching positions and had a pretty poor game because of this
- We really needed to stack on the points for our for and against. It will be struggle street to stay in top 8

Whats everyone's thoughts?

It really sucks that Potter had decided to have Simona play on the left side like most of us have wanted for ages and then he goes off early with a concussion.

I think Anasta probably had his best game ever. There were three really good plays where he stood up for us. Austin really pitched in despite playing in a deeply unfamiliar position. Taupau's aggression was sensational to watch. How Shillington stayed on the pitch after attacking Taupau is beyond me. Heroic effort from Noafoluma to come back onto the pitch after going off injured.

The thing that really stood out for me was just how bad Thompson was in defence. Hopefully Paterson comes back soon and starts filling in for Fulton because we are missing someone of Fulton's quality desperately.

Does anyone know if Nofo is alright? I hope he didn't just get the injection and be out for a number of weeks.
I hope Simona is all good aswell. He wasn't knocked out cold so I think he'll be okay for Panthers.

We just cant take a trick with injuries atm,a real gutsy win against the odds. I thought most of the team played well considering the injury crisis that was developing. The negative was that Brooks defence was terrible, which may have effected his attacking game as it dropped off as the game went on,as was Lawrence in both A&D,while Sirro and Blair again went missing.
IMO a better opposition halves combo would of put us to the sword.

spot on - everything

we still have a few weak links, most teams wouldve rolled us with the lack of personell we ended up with

rome wasnt built in a day....that attitude shift from 12 months ago is terrific, we are building a winning positive culture under Potter

I think our defence lifted pretty immensely in the second half. Canberra had 5 straight sets against us, camped inside our 30. And we survived.

When have we ever done that?

I still think that this is a positive. It was obvious from the start of the season but at least the right decision was eventually made.

That win was gutsy.

Anasta was good and about time
Austen could play any position on the park against any team and play well
Sue needs special mention played with a substantial shoulder or arm injury
Richards save another match for us
everyone had a dig

The refs slowed the game down to a snails pace with their inability to make a decision. This played into our hands as with our reduced bench, players carrying injuries we need all the stoppages we could get. Although we got some shocking calls.

Special mention to the refs for stopping that last penalty kick, may well have saved our bacon.

Con

They have been extremely lucky to beat the Raiders, Knights, Sharks and Eels this year and they are occupying a false position on the ladder.

Pro

Best defensive effort I have seen in years.

We are very lucky to be in the position we are in on the ladder, but the fact of the matter is we are where we are because we haven't given up.

You never know what can happen

Pros

There's no way we win a game like that in years gone by. Previously we only ever won through talent, never toughness. Farah even said he is noticing a culture change in the club. Fully agree though if it was against anyone else we more then likely lose.

The halves having a free reign, neither were stuck on one side they have been all year. Braith in particular excelled with this

Simona on the left.....for the 17 minutes he looked bloody awesome

Cons

Injuries, we just can't take a fcking trick. No tedesco = no finals for me. Simona and Sue just top it off

Lawrence having another disgraceful game. His leg injuries don't cause him to throw stupid one handed passes over the sideline on the second tackle.

No one in NSW cup filled me with confidence about coming up to firsts, except maybe Taufaka. Lulia and Buchanan, I expect to see both in first grade this week, we're both shithouse

The position on the ladder is a little misleading due to byes. We are about 9th in reality. What we must do is improve our for and against. Sadly I thought last night, prior to injuries we could have scored a few points to help the situation.

The two points were critical and the 1 point win...well, I'll take as many as we can get between now and round 26:D

I listened to this game on the radio. Great effort Tigers.

My impression was that the Tigers won the game, but lost the wrestle.

The match stats claim that the Tigers had 53% of the possession, but had to make 49 more tackles. That translated into the Raiders having 8 more sets than the Tigers.

I hate the wrestle as much as anyone, but if the Tigers had of had 8 more sets, it probably wouldn't even have been close IMO.
