i think MAGPIES in WA
and TIGERS IN SA would have been very good for RL

Yeah, the Maggies wouldn't have even had to change name. They could still be known as the Western Magpies! The other option for Balmain IMO is to relocate to Brisbane and merge with local club East Brisbane, thus becoming the 2nd Brisbane team. This would be my league:

Brisbane Broncos @ Suncorp Stadium
Nth Qld Cowboys @ Dairy Farmers Stadium
Canberra Raiders @ Bruce Stadium
Melbourne Storm @ Olympic Park
Adelaide Rams @ Hindmarsh Stadium
Perth Jets @ WACA?
Sydney Roosters @ SFS
Cronulla Sharks @ Shark Park
St.George-Illawarra Dragons @ WIN Stadium
Wests Tigers @ Concord Oval
Penrith Panthers @ Penrith Park
Parramatta Eels @ Cumberland Stadium
Canterbury Bulldogs @ Belmore/Telstra Stadium
Auckland Warriors @ Ericsson Stadium
Manly Sea-Eagles @ Brookvale Oval
Central Coast Bears @ NorthPower Stadium
Newcastle Knights @ Marathon
Gold Coast Chargers @ Carrara

A wonderful 18-team comp. If we wanted 20 teams, simply add Redcliffe Dolphins and Wellington.

yeah thats a great 18 team comp

eventually the reds would have to find somewhere else to play as i understand the waca is a terrible place to watch league

why would you have the tigers playing at concord?

and why would you have the eels playing at cumberland?

There's supposed to be some rectangular sports stadium being constructed in Perth, but I didn't know the name.

Tigers at Concord because it's midway between Balmain and Campbelltown. Campbelltown is a sh!t hole that gets poor crowds. I love Leichardt Oval and would have them play there but than all the Westies would complain so having one ground in the middle at Concord should solve the problem.

Cumberland Stadium = Parramatta Stadium mate.

Interesting story about the rise in RL in the West .equal effort might be put in the fall of RL in the West .The situation here is much worse than when the Reds folded and we are supposed to be superior to Vic and SA .
Since that time the WCE have recovered to be finals contenders ,the Dockers have become heroes ,the Glory has been a success and the local WARL has shrunk from 8 to 6 (5 next year) as well as the likely hood of a Super 12s team. As well NRL has been banished to post midnight on the TV .Sponsorship ,travel, rekindling support, venture capital all problems .I think you'll find the NRL looking NE instead.

This is a couple of times I have read postings about WARL shrinking to 5 teams next season. Can someone tell me what team/club is pulling out? Do any of you know this for sure or your just making asumptions or playing chiness whispers?

those arcticles break my heart, the idiots in charge during 94-99 have alot of questions to answer.

Maybe we should look to an expanded competition, problem is the idiots pretty much gave Ch.9 the FTA rights.

f**k YOU Former surposed leaders.

along with the axeing of the RLWC

I always reckon it's funny how the advocates of culling/merging/re-locating Sydney teams are strong on the idea until someone suggests it may be THEIR team.

Then all of a sudden they start spluttering about "tradition" and "history" and all the rest of it.

Take Dimitri for example, if he had his way he's send my Dogs off to Wellington without a blink. But ask him if he'll send his Dragons down to The 'Gong (full-time) and all of a sudden decentralisation hasn't got the same appeal.

And good riddance to The Rams and The Reds, a complete waste of good time and effort. And as soon as Lochie gets bored we can get rid of that other pile on league's arse (Storm) and get on with looking after the ones that love us.

Because in case anyone hasn't noticed - those southern belles only have eyes for AFL.

you absolute goose

zef once again has shown his utter stupidity

if the afl had killed sydney and brisbane teams years ago they would have missed out on so much

the nrl has missed out on so much and yet you want to further dimish our comp and make it nsw and QLD only

i bet you were on of those people saying to get rid of the warriors when they had some financial worries

On the contrary, there's always been a solid core of Kiwi's that love us. And we should be doing more for them.

So that's a good idea - piss the Storm off to Wellington, now you're talking.

"The Wellington Storm" Got a nice ring to it don't it.

IMO. Campleltown is a recipe for an explosion in crowd numbers. High growth area, young people all they need is good on-field form. (Two words PENRITH PANTHERS.)
I hope that the tigers (even though I hate them), cowboys and Souths make the 8. That will be a boost for RL.
Also, is it just me or is the NRL doing a shithouse job at promoting the Storm. Penrith make the 8 (go on to win) get sell out home matches...Melbourne make the 8 and still get crowds of 10,000. Don't they relise that the only people that go to Storm home games are expats from Syd, Bris, and NZ? Don't they relise that the average Melbournian doesn't give a shit about the Storm and RL and some have never herd of RL? Don't they relise that the Storm won't get decent support for at least another 20-30 years. Don't they relise that they have to promote the club?

Actually that's not a bad idea. We can go back to the good old days with balmain, the magpies, bears, jets, and roosters as "easts". It would be great to have the reds, rams, Wellington but what's it proving. Why does everybody want to expand..so we can compete?..with AFL and super 12. What's the point?
P.S I'm only joking. Its just a crazy idea.

i think history has shown that killing new teams is stupid

it basically shuts out league forever in that area

WA
SA

and now zef wants to kill vic

It is not about competing with other sports, it is about getting kids all over Australia playing. The next 'Joey' or 'Freddie' or 'Whoever you think is great player' could well be sitting somewhere in Adelaide or Perth. Currently he will never even contemplate playing RL, and I would therefore never get to marvel at his skills. I want it so ever potential great player anywhere in Australia, has the chance to come through his local teams grades into the Green and Gold.

PS. I just wanted to say that anyway.

Thanks for the inspiration. :D I think it would be great but i'd hate to see it become all about money with little passion and tradition. I hate seeing clubs merge or being shut down...it just seems wrong.
Even with my club. I have to honestly say I'm not as proud as I should be to be a Bulldogs suporter. Have a look at the site. Its way too comercialised. Its all about sponsors, money. It gets on my nerves. Sometimes I feel like I'm going to give up and follow the Swans. But I can't because the club means so much to me.
I think I need some counciling  ...Ray (Had.)?
