Would rather we sign a Bateman-esque back rower and persist with Luciano with Blore coming off the bench.

HAHA OMFG for a second I actually thought someone like Bateman would come to our club...or that Luciano will get back into form...or that Blore would stay at our club if he reached his potential

Garner Set To Be Collateral From Tigers' Pursuit Of Star Duo​

While uncertainty still surrounds who will coach the club next year, the Wests Tigers are considering pulling the trigger on a handful of roster moves.
The embattled club have just finalised a post-season review after missing the finals for a 10th straight year, with Michael Maguire no certainty of keeping his job for next season.


Though the focus remains primarily on the coaching situation at the joint venture, the Tigers are eager to land a big fish in the player market this off-season and could shed some salary cap space to do so.

According to The Australian's Brent Read, this could start with talented back-rower Luke Garner, who has been linked with a move away from Concord before.


“There has been some talk around Luke Garner for a couple of years now and he was linked with Manly last year,” Read said on Triple M.


“There has been a bit of a freeze on player movement at the Tigers while they resolve the coaching situation, but Luke Garner’s name has appeared on the radar of some other NRL clubs.

“My sense is he may leave over the off-season and it depends on which club is interested. Manly is a club that he has been linked with previously."

Read suggested the talk around Garner comes off the back of the Tigers' interest in bringing Tariq Sims or Adam Elliott to the club.

Sims has been informed by St. George Illawarra he wasn't in their plans beyond 2022, and could be granted a release from the final year of his contract if an opportunity elsewhere for the NSW Origin edge forward was to arise.

Elliott, meanwhile, parted ways with the Bulldogs last month and has been linked with a move to the Tigers among a handful of other suitors.

“The Tigers have been linked with both those guys. If they are willing to let Luke Garner go that would suggest that perhaps they think that one of those guys is going to arrive," Read added.

“So maybe that is a hint for a potential destination for Sims or Elliott.”

With the Tigers interested in both Elliott and Sims, it could see the club propose a three-way player trade involving Manly, who have expressed interest in Garner, a Sea Eagles junior, previously.

Manly have reportedly told prop Marty Taupau he's free to leave this off-season, which could open up an opportunity to bring Garner on board.

“At the moment Manly don’t have the room to fit him in but if Marty Taupau happens to go and Marty has been given permission to explore his options on the open market then maybe that brings Manly into play.

“They have a relationship with Luke Garner. He played under-20s with Tom Trbojevic so he is good friends with Trbojevic and I believe he still lives on the Northern Beaches.

“That is one to watch and it will hinge on the coaching situation at the Tigers and also what happens with Marty Taupau and if he finds another club and if he decides to move in the off-season.”

With Curtis Sironen bound for Super League club St. Helens next season, the Sea Eagles will be on the lookout for an experienced replacement, which adds further sense to the links to Garner.

The authors of this article need to realize it is not the Tigers way to have a plan when releasing players. Maybe a few words about it not happening and then let them go with no compensation of any form. No player swap, no money. Then after they have gone (maybe quite a while after they have gone) we will see if we can sign anyone, with the answer to that being "No...not really"

9 /10's of what everyone gets upset about is nothing more rhan journos generating their own copy....they're ambulance chasers who continually call in hoax triple 0 calls...as bad as WT may or may not be they've created and cultivate a narrative they feed off. In the same sentence they can mock us for not signing any big names and mock any big name who would come. Compared with the journos of other major sports the NRL has by far the weakest roster...they wouldnt even make journo park footy grade and only have hindsight as a skillset....THEY are the biggest joke of a club in the NRL

Its all entertainment, they are there to shift the goods and services.

The more dramatic and ridiculous the better and it’s all “mind candy” and “fluff” not to be taken seriously.

Hoops trying to be serious is when it really gets dark and mystical. They reckon Kenty can well handle himself in a punch on.

@stryker predicted the officials would hunt Madge for their own protection.

I don’t think Lee has led the club too well, the members are creeped out by him, but we need his money.

One can only dream that Crawley, Buzz, Hooper, Kent and Hadley are all out on the drink one night, Buzz is plastered and bumps into someone and tells them to piss off, , Buzz get's called an old drunk and go home before he pisses all over himself. Buzz then tells them that they are a nobody and gets pushed over for his trouble. Hooper and Kenty would come over and Hooper would mouth off and Kenty would threaten to sort them out. Not to be outdone Rayyy would come over and start to tell people he would sort them all out and name and shame them on his show tomorrow. In an act of sheer joy that should be shown to all people when ever they are sad, all three would get beaten worse than Rodney King and Buzz and Crawley get smacked as well because no doubt they would try to dog shot someone...

News Corp has learnt that Maguire is expected to have coached his last game unless there is a last minute shift among the club’s hierarchy.
Penrith assistant coach Cameron Ciraldo is the front-runner for the job, but it is unlikely that he will pursue the opportunity.

Instead Englishmen Steve McNamara and Shaun Wane, plus Aussie St Helens coach Kristian Woolf are among the leading candidates should the Tigers pull the trigger on Maguire.

The Tigers board met for the first time last week since the famed review into the Tigers’ 2021 season was completed. They asked for further recommendations from the football committee. Those recommendations need to be put to the board.

It will now be left to the board to make a final decision. While Maguire had some strong support initially, there has been a mood shift in recent days.

That shift could culminate in Maguire being axed despite two years remaining on his deal.

There is little doubt that the Tigers want to speak with Ciraldo. He has indicated he won’t pursue any opportunities until his commitments with the Panthers end, which will happen within the next fortnight.

The Tigers have put a total recruitment and retention freeze while they make a decision on their coach. They have been linked to Adam Elliott and Tariq Sims but are unable to make genuine plays for the back-rowers because of the ongoing uncertainty surrounding their coach.

Despite his lean record, he now sits second to Tim Sheens for the most games coached at the joint-venture.

I would be genuinely excited if they where able to sign Kristian Woolf. My understanding is he has a year to go on his contract in England but we know what contracts with coaches are worth.
Woolf could use it as an opportunity to bring some Tongan players into the team so they can work on their combinations before the world cup. Anyway the Tongan team have an enormous amount of respect for him and he has certainly lifted their world status.
I would choose him over all the other candidates.
As Captain Pickard used to say on Star Trek..."Make it so."

A media related musing....i see Ryan Girdler has been included with every other ex player referred to as "legend" anytime they make a "stop the presses" observation about the game that's obvious enough to be able to be made by the most dimwitted goldfish in the bowl...Girdler....Ennis...Anasta....all legends ...i guess i need to refresh my understanding of the term.
