I read the Story on the Wests Tigers webb page calling non members to show their stripes. It mentioned a $75 club membership for those who can't get to games. I fall into that category and was curious what I would get for $75. I clicked on the view packages button with the only option to renew a membership and no information about the packages.

Hopefully Richo can find someone better at their job to run the webb site.

I got this one. Had to opt-out of automatic renewal which was for ticketed membership. I figure I'm not going to bother going to games until the players start to care as much as I do.

Anyway, you get a members pack with *cough* world class merch *cough* such as a hat and scarf and lanyard and stickers lol. Officially...

Shane Richardson is keen on turning his stay as Wests Tigers chief executive into a permanent one as he takes a relaxed attitude to a get-out clause that could allow Stefano Utoikamanu to quit the club.
Richardson was appointed to the role on a six-month interim basis earlier this year after initially being approached as a club consultant.
His return to clubland came after a report into the Tigers' consistent failures led to changes at board and executive level at the joint venture.
But speaking at an event to launch the rebrand of the Enrichd consultancy firm he co-founded with son Brent, Richardson said he wants to stick around and be part of the Tigers' revival under new coach Benji Marshall.

"Benji is a highly talented coach and he can be a great coach," Richardson told AAP.
"He's highly intelligent and well organised and my job is to put as much structure as possible to make him successful.
"We're in discussions (about extending my tenure) but I took this on because they wanted advice on how the club should be set up.
"As long as they (the Tigers board) did what they said they would do, which they have done, then it was up to them to make a decision if they wanted me to go on.
"I've done 30 years of it, it's what I do and I'm the luckiest man in the world getting to run rugby league clubs."
One of Richardson's earliest challenges at the Tigers may be keeping hold of prop Utoikamanu, who last year made his debut for the NSW State of Origin squad.
A clause inserted into the 23-year-old's contract by the previous administration allows him to quit the club at the end of the 2024 season if they fail to make the finals.
The clause is void if Utoikamanu makes a second appearance for NSW by the end of this year.
But rather than get in and renegotiate the forward's deal to remove the possibility of one of the game's emerging props heading onto the open market, Richardson is willing to let things play out.

"We want to create a club where he wants to stay," Richardson said.
"I don't think that way where I go, 'Oh god, that's going to come up'.
"Stefano likes being here and what's going on.
"Me lying with my head on the pillow at night worrying about it is not going to help anybody and I want to set up a club where everybody wants to stay - Benji, the players and the staff.
"We want Stefano to stay and I want 300 games out of him and we've got some great kids coming through, we're in nowhere near as bad a situation as people say we are."

Well the only way to get membership up, is to start winning and getting to the finals.

“Barry and I have started talks. I’m keen to stay on. Hopefully, we can work something out in the next little period, but we’ve only just started talking. If they’re keen, I’m keen, so we’ll see what happens.”

I think other clubs do it. Richo needs members $ and this might be a way for members like me who didn't renew because they are sick of the shite that the board dished out that we may think things have changed and honesty and transparency might catch a few fish.
Well I'm not renewing until I see a positive change in our players culture.
I'm yet to see it.
[I have been a season ticket holder only for 4 years now but not this year]

The irony is that the BTR podcast demonstrated we actually had more honesty and transparency before. For example, we actually knew who the board members were. It's been three months since the old board was sacked and the new board appointed, but we still don't know the name of the Magpies FC board representative. On the podcast, Richo said he met with the new board, so why the secrecy about who the mystery board member is?

Richo also made the case that the club needs more paying members in order for the club to be in a more independent financial position. But what was the carrot he offered to lure back disaffected fans? That they get to be part of the Wests Tigers family. That they get the inside scoop on what's happening with the club. You get to be part of the inner sanctum. You can ask a question, but first Richo will have a question for you:

Richo said:
Are you a member? What's your membership number?

Now if they can't tell me their membership number, I don't want to talk to you.

Well, that sounds awfully familiar. It's not word for word what Lee Hagipantelis said to Rob Bechara back in June 2022, but expresses the same sentiment. That sentiment is this: You are not a real fan and you aren't allowed an opinion unless you continue to stump up your hard cash for fan club membership every year.

So we have a new board, a new CEO, but it's the same old Tigers under the hood. The attitude of the club is "What have you done for me lately?" and despite Richo's appeal, nothing that's been said so far has inspired me to throw more money at the club, to be burnt on the altar of what is effectively the private plaything of the Wests Ashfield debenture holders.

A positive change in the player culture is not going to be enough for me. The only thing that will satisfy me is a change in both the governance model and the ownership model. I know it's only early days and this could be Richo just playing the game, so I won't lose faith in him yet, but I definitely won't be buying a membership until there is change I can believe in.

I get the transparency thing but at the end of the day it's a business and it needs to operate.
We wouldn't give a shite about anything if our team was winning and we weren't embarrassed by every dumb decision the board had made.
We support a game of football and the our players.
This should be our only focus, watching footy. There are too many distractions which compounds the miserable feeling of losing.
Lets just get on with supporting our team and at the end of the season we can evaluate where, what and how.

Well said, this is my position as well

I really don’t get why Benji dropped Reiley.. I didn’t even know he did untill now
I thought he was solid as hell in the few games he played last year. Dissapointing

It’s behind a paywall and I don’t subscribe to the Tele.
Are you able to give a summary?
A women wrote it by the looks, maybe a Sharks fan?

I’ve been attending NRL games since I was a little girl and after witnessing the most vile, offensive behaviour I have ever seen at a game last weekend, it’s time men learned the footy is not a magical place where the rules of polite society do not apply.
In our world you cannot get away with calling a stranger in the street a pussy and a gay c–t, or yelling at them in another language based on their ethnic appearance.

It would be entirely unacceptable to start singing made-up lyrics referring to sexually assaulting women or rough-housing so much you nearly take out the people around you.

Yet this is what I witnessed from a band of obviously intoxicated Tigers fans on the hill at Leichhardt Oval when the Tigers played the Sharks on Saturday.

Cards on the table: I’m a Sharks fan, but I have been attending Tigers games at Leichhardt Oval since childhood due to a long line of Balmain fans in my family.

On the hill I witnessed Tigers and Sharks fans alike subjected to an endless torrent of homophobic, racist, misogynistic and intimidatingly violent language without any intervention from security, staff or police.

The vibe was off from the jump when a man with palpable rage in his eyes started screaming at everyone to “get the f—k up, it’s Leichhardt” (the game hadn’t started).

He and his mates then proceeded to scream at players that they were “pussies and gay c—ts”, screamed in Fijian at Sharks players of Pacific Islander appearance, and rumbled with each other without regard for anyone around them.

One elderly man was nearly knocked to the ground, while another was addressed with a threatening and aggressive tone when he politely asked them to watch out for his small grandson while they were staggering around.

Shame on the men around them who laughed and said nothing.

Shame on the school that apparently employs one of these clowns, spotted carrying on like a goose by his students who started calling out “yeah, let’s have a beer, sir”.

And shame on those who – when I posted on X about this experience – said I’m soft, this is what footy is like, and I should cop it or get out.

Men are using violent, offensive language towards players and about women and *I* should leave the game because that’s “just how things are”?

Footy matches are not special places where men get a pass from behaving like respectable human beings.

It is also not a special place where you can be one kind of intensely offensive person who speaks in such a revolting fashion and then switch it off when you leave.

If you are a man who lobs homophobia, racism and misogyny for a laugh at the footy, you are homophobic. You are racist. You are a misogynist. I’m worried about your wives and girlfriends. You are not to be tolerated by polite society.

Boys will not be boys. Boys will be men who take accountability and stop behaving in such a puerile, putrid manner because they think they are entitled to do whatever they want in community spaces.

(that’s not even the whole article lol)

Wonder why she chose that area, if she’s been there before, the hill is not for the feint hearted.
Especially late afternoon on a Saturday.
Anyway, she’s had her gripe, though I doubt anywhere at LO was sane on Saturday?

She probably chose the hill because it won't fall down.
It's either a besser brick or a drunk that hits you.

Have heard Richo on James Graham's podcast the other day, and it's clear he's trying to move us permanently away from Leichhardt. Which is a disgrace. All for corporate wining and dining.

Of course, Tigers winning games is the most important thing of all, but we can't throw away our history.

Attending games at Accor and even CommBank is soulless and depressing.
