RANK THE SHARKS: Fullbacks from Peachey Onwards

We've had 8 or so regular fullbacks since Peach occupied the position from 1994 to 2005. Some pretty good names among them.

Note below that games played is total number of games played for the Sharks and not the number of games played at Fullback.

How would you rank this lot specifically as Sharks fullbacks (ie: don't factor Val's time on the wing into your consideration)? Where does WK sit for you now, and on potential by the time he has played 150+ games?

PLAYERGAMES PLAYED

Barba - that one season was incredible
Peachey - he really was hit and miss the last few years
Holmes - Was up there as the best FB in the game before the NFL adventure. He was so good they picked Turbo on the wing in the Aus team
Kennedy - Moving up the ranks quickly
Gordon - Bit of a handbrake though
Kearney - Hit and miss. Often hurt
Gardner - Hit and miss. Often pissed
Simmons - Couldn't stand him

I'm the same as Cools, except I will say that the one full season that Barba played fullback, 2016, was just about the best I have ever seen of one season for the Sharks.
Overall though, The Peach wins by a long way.

I am in the Simmo the Limmo Camp. He was always the first one picked and he had God on his side and when he bent the line back he certainly bent it.

Loved Benny Bs' year with us. He was a thrill to watch every time he touched the pill or was sniffing for it.

Peach was awesome most of the time but he dwindled off in his later seasons with us.

Seems like a long long time ago now.

Same as Ks.
Imagine if Barba had it all together and worked hard like Nicho his whole career. He could of been an immortal, at his peak I haven’t seen many better

I find it difficult to rate anyone post Peachy - his loss was enormous not only see him go but the way it all went down. Absolute shat show.
I remember his last game, same as Stevo - we were bloody busted at that stage.
Agree he has lost some of his way, but he is still above the hill of that list.
Kennedy the other night showed some real glimpses that with beer goggles, he looked like him.
Barba was great, even in 2015 he had his moments. Val can fugg off, Kearney was brave and the rest are the hangovers I vaguely remember from doing one or two good things .

Peachey is my all time fav shark but barba was THE most important player for us in 2016 i reckon. Will is next, kearney had a good spell and the rest can do one.

Pretty much this, but switch Val and Bubba.

The Peach without a doubt is my #1 despite the injuries in his latter years.
Barba was first class in 2016
Val Holmes had a pretty good year in 2018

The rest were hit and miss, Isaac Gordon is another to add to the hit and misses, I remember him having a blinder against Melbourne in 2012.

And looks like everybody forgot Darren Albert.

Yeah I didnt include those that filled in at fullback for a couple of games.
Only included those who had a full season (or close to) in the position.

To me, Nathan Gardner is the poster boy of everything that was wrong with the Sharks sides in the early 2010's. We were never going to be a top side with him at the back. I mean that in the sense that for 4 years, we were not in a position to attract an elite fullback and were just content to 'settle'

I still remember a game against Melbourne (I think) where they were on the attack and put up a bomb. Gardner did not attempt to catch the ball, rather, he stuck his foot out kicked it on the full, giving the ball back to the Storm. I thought at the time "We will never go close to winning a comp as long as this guy is one of our best 17"

He and Todd Carney were always out and about - I can remember seeing the two of them pre season riding motorised scooters down burraneer bay road full pelt over the roadabout at Woolooware Road with no look - Season was a bust

Might be on my own and I loved the peach but I reckon Will could surpass him over time. That being said....we don’t win the comp without Benny Barba so he’s pretty hard to surpass atm. Maybe a premiership or two in the next little bit might have us juggling these rankings.
