In his Sun Herald column today too.

"I told the ARU yesterday I want to be a rugby player for the next 3 years.

"I changed my mind at least 10 times because, while I haver won a World Cup in league, I have never won a premiership with the club I love - the Sharks.

"Weighing up my options I felt the Sharks were in a rebuilding phase and by the time they were ready to challenge to win the comp I may have been phased out as an old-timer. That's not to say that Cronulla won't challenge in the coming years, but it was a risk I wasn't really ready to take."

Gutless wonder.

He also said the Dragons made him an offer, though it came down to rugby and the Sharks.

Throw everything at him. Lockyer and Kimmorley would be a deadly combo.

Here's to dreaming!

RAT NOT WELCOME AT TOYOTA PARK

I really don't want to see him walk through the gates at Toyota Park again. Stay away Mat, we don't want to see you.

thats a bit harsh - no sour grapes (again) but we will better off without without him. He was a champ for the sharks but the injury factor is too risky

Nah it's not harsh at all.
What's harsh is what HE said.

He doesn't think we are a team that can win the comp, or even go close. If that's the case, don't come and watch us. Go play with the fairies in RUgby Union.

What a hypocritical statement. Rat always likes to open his big gob, and the Waratahs will NEVER, repeat, NEVER, win anything while Rogers is playing.

f**k him ........he would have costed a f**king fortune, and i doubt his softened body would have handled a rugby league pre-season, plus 20+ rounds of standing in the middle of our defensive line.

A soft option from a soft man.

You bunch of f*&^ing fairweather friends.

Tamazoid, give yourself a triple. How were the 'tahs going before Rat was injured?

And, in case any of you geniuses haven't noticed, we ARE in a re-building phase. We're gonna be stuck here for a fair while too, given that we have a bunch of dopes (insert names like G. Pierce, B. Pierce here) handling our recruitment and football club management.

And, if my mail on his contract is right, then Mat would be a fool NOT to have re-signed with the ARU.

Put it this way - I hear he is on DOUBLE what ALL of us punters would have been willing to pay him to return to the Sharks. I'm led to believe it's above what even the elite SL players (Fittler, ET, Daley) were getting in the 1996-1999 era.

Put yourself in his shoes. You have a young family. You are working for a Holden dealership selling cars on about $50K. The Ford bloke up the road offers you $25K. You're a die hard Ford man. You WANT to sell Fords (although God only knows why you'd want to... ) No special favours, same job but a truckoad more hours (well, how many games do the Rah Rahs have to play each year compared with the NRL blokes?). Maybe Ford Man will throw in a nicer demo for you to drive (ie, a nice 5/8th spot?), but if someone wants to buy it then you lose your car.

Come on, would ANY of you 'do it for love'???

Yeah, thought so.

He's not coming back, there's not much we can do about it, if you want to get evil about it then look at our club management and the management of our code, not at a young bloke who has accepted an offer that was simply too good to refuse.
