Jimbo,

You don't believe me when I say I'd congratulate him for looking after his family?

I sure as hell would. Family is important mate, and any self-respecting person does what they can to provide the best for their own.

My gripe with Mat Rogers is what he said about the Sharks in the initial interview. About how they won't challenge for a Premiership in the next 3 years. I don't like hearing that from anyone, especially a legend of the club. You can't say you like it either, can you?

I heard him last night, talking about signing with Rugby again.... something along the lines of "happy wife, happy life".

Makes be believe the money story more so than the success story. If it was the money that decided it, I'd like him to say that. Not bag the Sharks club out as an excuse.

If I've got it wrong, I apologise. He's a great player, and appears to be a great guy. Just has a tendancy to shoot his mouth off a little too much without thinking it through. (Much like me sometimes.)

I have no interest in Union players.
Matt is a union player.
I am glad we did not sign him.
I am glad he stayed with union.

He is not a Shark.

Rogers can go and get farked. He's a big headed wanker that likes the percieved fame that goes with playing Union. Like Wendell he probably thinks it fantastic that a few people in Japan and Argentina now know who he is

Erm.... trust me, living in the UK I found far more English, Welsh, Scottish, Irish, French, South African and Kiwis who knew who Matty was than I did Darren Lockyer or Andrew Johns.

And this was well before the World Cup.

He made the right decision.

Beeks, I'm not so much upset about him not signing with the Sharks, as about what he said in the papers.

Shooting his mouth off about how we won't challenge for a Premiership and sh!t like that. Come on mate, you can't say you like hearing that can you?

Mate, if he came out and said that he signed with Union for the money, I'd have no problem. I'd applaud him for looking after his family. It just seems like a bullsh!t excuse that's all.

Fair enough mate, and I take your point, but my take on it is that perhaps he was just being HONEST about the state of our club currently and the potential for BUYING new talent in ?

Come on, let's be realistic here, Rogers would have had a VERY candid run down on the any other potential purchases before making his call to sign or not, and obviously, he didn't get excited about any of them enough for him to think he would have an angry pack to play behind, or many other attacking options.

And quite obviously he doesn't have much confidence in the current squad to be a premiership force even with him at the helm.

Not good news I know mate, and not what we want to hear from a club legend, particulary as he has direct and candid information about our future from his father, but isnt a little hoensty better than a lot of Bulls...t ?

also Richo, I think other enticements regarding travel for the family is more what Rogers was referring to when tlaking about "happy family etc ", he was clear that the main reason he was thinking of leaving the ARU was due to the travel he was away from his young family. Obviously the new deal allows his family to travel with him, so it was alot more enticing.

Objective one, fine post !

Yeah no dramas Beeks.

I just don't like people saying negative stuff about my club, irrespective of who it is. I'm sure if I had a chat to Mat, I'd understand his decision much better. All the media talk is probably reported incorrectly anyway.

And like I said in my last post, I shoot my mouth off sometimes!

Funny Richo, a few years ago I was the same, I used to shout down everyone and anyone who dared say anything negative. I used to get bagged for having rose colours on !

But I guess with age and a greater understanding of how things work t at the club after a few well publicised departures from the playing ranks, I have learned to accept that our club and the people running it are not perfect !

Doesnt mean I don't love the club to bits and hurt in the guts after each loss mate, and the only reason I point out things I see as realistic criticisms, is because I hope to god someone reads them and they get fixed !

So he obviously has no faith in the ability of Raper and his father to turn the whole siituation around. f**k some footballers are stupid. Doesn't he remember Penrith. We are doing nowhere near as bad as Penrith were in the years leading up to their premiership. All it takes is careful management of the cap, some shrewd signings and a few gun youngsters to come through. I believe we have the potential for point 3 to come true, so its up to our admin to get 1 and 2 right.

But maybe when Mat read in Big League that his old man valued him at $100000 more than all the other CEO's he lost all faith in Sludge's ability to manage the cap???

I wouldn't mind if we were rebuilding with some decent young players. Im no expert, far from it but im not jumping for joy at the players they are beginning the "rebuilding season" with...........as far as Matty is concerned, i hope he has a blinder for the tah's next year and get injured the game before the GF and has to miss it..........Feed the f****er hotdogs i say

Do I need to go into that statement at all? Money has you doing something I imagine you what rather not do. Yet you are there doing it. Don't give me any other reason than the money and the gongs either.
