Im going to rate the best halves combination for 2018 based on the individuals ability to deliver at their max potential....so in our case if Widdop performs on his form from round 1-7 last year and Ben Hunts performs as he did in the last 8 rounds last year for the Broncos that equates to their potential.

Top 8 combinations based on max ability:

1. Thurston/Morgan
2. Cleary/Maloney
3. Hunt/Widdop
4. Norman/Moses
5. Cronk/Keary
6. Milford/Nikorima
7. Croft/Munster
8. Pearce/Moylan

Interesting ratings if you can consider how important the halves combination are to a teams success..I honestly think we have a top 4 halves combination.....will that equate to a top 4 team...(we have the forwards)

Any thoughts on these combinations..

Some good halves pairings there.
I agree that cronk/keary has to be number 2. And if you are talking both halves playing to full potential then Pearce/Moylan is about 4. I doubt that pairing will come to fruition though, more likely Townsend will partner one of those guys.

Same time last year everyone was rating the Johnson/Foran halves partnership as the best......and it turned to shit under a crap coach & ordinary forward pack. Very hard to rate until all the dominos fall into place, but IMO the Cowboys halves pairing is streaks in front & daylight second. Hunt & Widdop under Bellamy would be right up there, but in reality under McJetski they carry a lot of extra weight!

If its based on delivering at their max potential, I'd have Austin/Sezer at 6, in front of Pearce/Moylan. Otherwise I agree with Johnsy.

Mickey nice thread mate. The fact that some people shoot you down yet the same people add nothing to the forum is laughable. Its easy to throw stones at others.

Hey Crush with all due respect It's wonderful that so many fans have varying views & opinions. That's what makes this forum site so interesting & entertaining. If we all shared the same views it would be mighty boring, with the exception being we all love the Dragons and crave success.

I guess when looking at how effective your halves combo are I believe a big part of there success is how the forwards are going.
Basically I ranked all 16 teams as halves and then did it again and ranked the forwards, added together and applied an average.
My top 8 are,
1. Cowboys (very strong squad next year at full strength).
2. Dragons (we have the forwards and halves, speed????).
3. Roosters (halves better than us but our forwards better).
4. Panthers (if Maloney goes, he will compliment Cleary well, potential NSW halves next year).
5. Eels (they have MONGREL).
6. Storm (young halves pair but Referee Smith get's the average up).
7. Rabbits (yes shocked me, but firing Burgess boys / Crichton help Walker & Reynolds).
8. Sharks (halves sh!t but forwards still very strong).

Manly and Canberra just missed, Broncos down at 11.

What we are missing though is an X Factor in the threequarters (Roberts / Jennings etc) oh and the obvious person picking the team each week.

We have got decent halves on paper and that's cool but we have a rookie fullback and a hooker that is being run into the ground. Will have to wait and see how it all comes together. Also a shit coach.

It's still about the team around them and how they all come together. No team has built around their halves like we have, except for maybe the Cowboys who are much better than us (and have a more settled fullback/hooker situation).

Where is Foran and Frawley in the mix? Lol.

I actually think Brooks / Reynolds may go alright for the Tigers next season. Don't underestimate the Tigers as I think they will surprise a few teams. Also the Canberra halves of Austin / Sezer. Not sure what happened there last year but they have an awesome spine in Whighton/Austin/Sezer and Hogson.

Elgey and Taylor will also be pretty handy.
