Im one of Gibbs' biggest critics......but I have to agree with Westie here(gags slightly). His defense is first rate,if he can get metres he would be top shelf.

IMO.....he has improved plenty this year.

Gibbs has improved this year, but I still don't think he's good enough to start. I think we are 1 quality prop short of a top forward pack (plus a few positional changes will be required). A pack of"

8. Quality Prop
9. Farah
10. Galloway
11. Ellis
12. Heighington
13. Galea

14. Morris/Moltzen/Hanbury
15. Laurie
16. Payten
17. Gibbs

A pack like that would be incredible.

Not a fan of Payten? I know you got him on th bench but dont rate him as a starter?

I am a huge Payten fan, I just think his style of play is more effective off the bench. He won't make the big hit ups in the opening stages compared to a Galloway, and he doesn't have the starch in defence that Danny Galea and Gareth Ellis have. Coming into the game when players are starting to tire and coming up with some variety could prove more effective, getting the tiring defence in 2 minds. I'm not a believer of the theory that your best 13 players should start the game.

Fair points, he's not an 80 minute player and I dont really mind if he doesnt start. I disagree with your comments on his defense though. I think he's a bigger hitter than galloway or galea. Personally I'd have him captain.

How has everyone rated Laurie so well this year - 20 minutes off the bench looking lazy, unfit and caught out in defence - deserves a c- at best - he didn't train well enough in his first off-season when he has so much potential the bloke deserves a good bagging - if it was Gibbs who'd done that then you would be calling for him to be sacked from the club - ahh the bias is still alive and well here

Laurie is still a good season and a half away from a starting spot - if that - needs work between the ears it seems.

Been impressed with KILO, he mustve changed his running style, not so much upright anymore and getting lifted/pushed back...hitting the line and continuing forward now.

Laurie isn't a starter in my opinion.
Give him a good 20-30 mins each game to inject a bit of force and oomph and we'll be right.

Gibbs might as well just dive as far as he can and call held.
Does that 15 times and he gets like 60 metres.

Heighington produced 96m from 19 runs against the Roosters. While Gibbs' metres against Penrith were quite average (much like every single other Forward), Heighington's 5m/run against the Roosters was even worse. It's not a one off either.

You know what else isn't a one off? Our starting prop failing to get into double digit hit-ups forcing our back-rowers to do extra grunt work.

Heighington has been average to start this year - his defence is much better but his runs have been uninspiring - but can the Gibbs Appreciation Society give it a break? You guys complain about how Heighington misses tackles, how he'd better playing 60 minutes and so on, but he's covering for the lump of sh*t we've got in the front row whilst also facing extra attention this year after a bit of press last year & in the off-season.

Heighington was lazy around the ruck and in defence in general last year and still is. Rarely is he the bloke to take the first hip up from a kick; all his work is done off the back of a few runs, yet he still gets caught by the markers and makes bugger all metres followed by a very slow play the ball. This hasn't just been happening this year.

Unfortunately, as someone else put it, Heighington seems dumb in attack. I lost count of the amount of times we'd be on an attacking raid and the ball would find it's way to Heighington off a quick ruck, and our attack would go belly up because the markers picked him out.

Heighington needs a break during the game. Unfortuantely, from around the 25th minute mark to the 35th, against the Roosters I counted Heighington's involvement (tackles and hit ups) on one hand. If this doesn't say he's tired and looking for a break, then I don't know what is. Currently, we have two blokes sitting on the bench (sizeable Second Rowers mind you) who play the last 15 minutes. There is not a single person in the world that can convince me that it wouldn't be good for Heighington to have a break when he's obviously tired and bring on a fresh Forward, instead of playing with 15 men for 70 minutes.

I'm not going to comment much on Gibbs because what needs to be said has already been said in this thread - while his attack often leaves much to be desired, his defence (in a defensively horrible team) is crucial.
