Ratings for Roosters match

This is the way I saw it yesterday :-

Peachey 8- a vintage performance from him.

Merrit 7 - I liked the way he put his pass to ricketson early in the match behind him and played his finest game in sharks colours, proved that he IS NRL standard and was everywhere, at last we saw a genuine combo with Vagana , his tendancy to grubber whenever in the clear may be a worry if used too often, but it certainly created headaches for the roosters.

Rieck 7- Solid with ball in hand, but some great scramble defence really made him stand out for me

McGoldrick 7- ONe of his best all year, hit the line hard and troubled the roosters each touch, kept play going when it looked like breaking down.

Vagana 8 - WELCOME NIGEL ! thats what I call a match winning centres game, still no kick chase, but with ball in hand was awesome, combo with MErrit fantastic, high involvement, ALL quality

Bird 7- Looked great when taking the line on, great involvement and played with passion.

Kent- 7 Did enough in attack, bit his defence stood out.

Bailey- 9 - he found his rythym today and his offload rate was pure, found a player each time and he created the 2nd phase that won the game for us, gutsy and loves the jumper.

Isemonger 8- He is honest as the day is long, hit HARD, the roosters fans near me were even afraid of him, genuinely hated the once or twice he dropped the pill, great game.

Gallen 6- Not his highest involvement , but all quality when he did get touches.

Stevens- 9 - Made the roosters pack chase all day he was everywhere and had good game time

Hilder-7- solid as a rock, good kicking, great tackle rate and held the ball up each tackle.

Nutely-9- along with stevo, needed to stand up with our young bench, and did so.

BIckerstaff-7- looked like he was going to kill someone sitting on the bench waiting to get out there, and didnt disapoint, he was everywhere and eager as hell.

Galloway-6- Going forward all day and drawing 3 in at a time, good effort

Greenfield-6- fine debut, no fear and went hard

Sullivan-9- simply outstanding.

I agree with your analysis, and it s good to see Isemonger get some credit. When he isn't dropping the ball he is a good runner, and always hits hard in defense.

Yep solid all round. No passengers yesterday. A 9 though for Peach for being so committed. So much for all the cr*p in the media etc about him not being loyal to the cause. Be nice to see them play like that EVERY week in 2005

Team Commitment : 9
Team Passion: 9
Faith in one another: 9
Team Defence : 8.5
Team attack: 6.5
Beeker's summation: 9.75 (I would have Bird and Gallen scores the other way)

Up Up Cronulla.

Good report Beeks but I did notice on one occasion when Vagana was leading the kick-chase.

Thought Gallen went really well. I think he had a fairly long stint on the bench in the middle stage of the match.

IT was a fantastic team performance, as someone else said, there were no passengers, everyone did their job well.

What I loved about it was the slaps on the backs, the hand claps after another big hit forced the error, the passion and team work seems to be back and its inspiring.

perhaps we've been a bit spoiled with some of gallen's previous standout performances - i don't think he was down, more like everybody else was up

but yeah good summation beeks and bloody good work to the boys in the black, white and blue \\:D/

A fine point, maybe Gal just didnt stand out as much because everyone lifted around him ? He was outstanding the past 2 months in a patchy side, now they are up to his level and we are beating the top side.........Oh yeah !

And Vagana was also partly responsible for the Peachey run- out of our in goal.
Peach just ran around Vagana in the in goal, then Vagana stopped taking out 2 of those rorters who were lining Peach up.
Happened right in front of me, and my first thought was 'Bugger penalty to Goosters for a shepherd 1 metre out>
Fortunately it happened so quickly Mander failed to see it, and let play continue.
Clever play from Vagana. The Goosters aimed some early attack his way and he tackled them ALL. Great game.

They were both in goal, you can't be offside in goal so no sheppard, thats the way I read it.

Bubs, thats the kind of stuff that I believe Vagana has been doing week in week out. Indeed, he was way more involved this week and that was excellent to see, however, little things like that when he gets in the right position and produces a smart play have helped us out immensely. This year he has stolen the ball at exactly the right time, come out of the line to disrupt play at the right time and on the weekend, put his body in the right place at the right time (a repeat set there could have been curtains). I think its awesome to see such an experienced player mixed into a very inexperienced and rookie backline.. It can only do wonders for the team.

Looking forward to seeing more of this in the coming weeks.

No I don't think that is correct.
Yes you cannot be off side in the in-goal, but if you throw a forward pass in goal, you still get penalised or a scrum against you.
I can't see th Shepherding rule to be different from the field of play to the in goal. If tacklers are impeded, you get penalised.
We were lucky for that play. If it had been penalised, the Goosters might have only been 2 down, instead of 8 down at the time.
Of course, they might have just dropped the ball again I suppose.

Curiosity got to me so I checked out the NRL rule book, interestingly there is no mention of 'sheparding' or 'sheppard' that I could find, I'd say it falls under the offside rule, ie a player in front of another which doesn't apply in goal.

YOu write off Webster at peril Jimmy,

James webster, the red head I believe it is, little halfback who I felt should have been playing in the number 7 at the eels for most of the year, used to be at the tigers and showed glimpses then of his talent as a starting half.

I Fear that he will hurt us if we take him lightly, the eels may be playing the sharks at the sharks game here, using webster as we do Sullivan. Of course sully is far bgetter, but nuts, stevo , beattie and galloway all look like being tragetted up the middle by webster at dummy half late in each half, and that spells danger.

Just on Vagana's kick chase, nothing wrong with it aginst the roosters, he moved up in a straight line with the rest of them.. you hardly want the line staggered when fruitshop boy is running the ball back.

i also saw him running off sullivans shoulder, looked like he was looking for sullivan to put on a grubber or chip kick (about 40m out), but sullivan kicked long.
