Ray Warren: Best in the business...

What is the f**king deal with every single member of the channel 9 commentary team crawling up Rabbits' arse every opportunity they get!? On the Footy show, on the Sunday Roast, before the game... Gould, Fatty, Chief, Sterlo, and Vossy have all gone out of their way this season to talk him up. Sometimes they'll be talking about the Friday game, or Origin or something, and mention just how great Warren's call was. Give me a break! Does the guy have self esteem issues or something?

Do you think maybe it has to do with trying to convince us that a tired old hack who doesn't know the names of half the players isn't losing what little talent he ever had to call a game?

Just a thought.

;-) Perhaps 2006 will be Rab's final year and they're giving him a nice, compliment-filled send-off... all year

I can see what you are trying to say, they do kiss his arse a bit too much, but this is my opinion of him.

He came into the game as a racing caller, so he has done OK to learn about League.... I do get annoyed at his little side comments to Gus Gould because it's obvious he doesn't know enough to give an expert opinion.

In saying that, he knows EVERYONE'S name and he does a f**king good job calling the names play by play because he also doesn't rely on the TV screen, he calls through his Binoculars, regardless of the conditions.

He has a voice that will live in my memory forever, so I guess he's doing a good job.

He was far better when he was at ten all those years ago.

Now, all he does is hype certain sides (Broncos) and certain players (Menzies, Tallis), but I guess the others do too.

Okay, fair enough, he knows most of the names, but he also gets the wrong a lot as well.

He doesn't bother me as much as I made out above, but all the unnecessary praise this season irks me. It's just so strange that they seem to be ramming down our throat this idea of Ray Warren as a total guru. They haven't done it in seasons gone by in my memory.

On a completely different note that doesn't need a new thread, does anyone know the email address for The Sunday Roast?

i think his 1 of the best in the buisness, he has a great knowledge of the rules of the game, a great all round commentator

He's not great with knowledge but thats why you have Sterlo and Gould and Voss. Warren is the excitement factor. It wouldn't be a epic League game without him, he can make a match better IMO.

I've been following League for 30 years, and Ray Warren through all his misgivings - is STILL the best going around ATM.

i agree there isnt really anyone out there who can fill his role, the guys that do teh super saturday are good but dont have the energy that Warren gets. However i will saythat he should stick to league and not commentate at things such as the swimming. In regards to league he bugs me when Gus will say something about the way a player is going in the game and then he continually references that point for the rest of the match lol.

Rabs hypes the broncos? i must have missed that, i get the feeling he hates the broncos. He hypes the eels and knights more than anyone.

He showed very little excitement in last nights game, especially during that first storm try, he just was going through the motions.

Rabs has th voice for it, but application to calling is dwindling by the yr.
Still, i want a caller who has a good voice and he is the only one that has one that is calling games.
Voss was blessed with the ability to call, but his tone is annoying.

He is an eels fan, and loves sterlo.
If you can get hold of tapes of him calling Sterlo in the 80s when he played then you will hear him go nuts.
Although having said that, he does that for all of the elite stars
