How someone puts Laurie there I really don't get. Sommerton is the right choice he just needs to relax a little.

As Bossley says get those two ex-Tigers back into this team. It looks a lot stronger particularly on the bench.

Its gonna be a feisty one with Luai in the Tigers team. They have now lost three on the trot but they have to come back from Townsville which is a bonus for us.

Expecting a tougher match than the Eels encounter.

I'm pretty nervous already. This would be the 1st time Nath and Jerome will be against each other besides Country level right?

About a month ago I would have put this game as a lose, but we seem to be crawling back and they lost Galvin who I believe has made them weaker. THIS game in Campbelltown?

Tigers are falling back down the ladder to where the belong. Not really a knock on them I just don't think you can fix their issues overnight. The Galvin fiasco has aslo been a massive distraction for them.

They've lost their resolve in defence. They were much better earlier in the year but its slowly fallen away.

NRL.com has it at CommBank

Getting ahead of myself here but I'd love to see us go 4/4 at Commbank. Beat the Eels and Tigers twice there.

Tigers love to spread the ball and we look slow to slide across - Tigers could win comfortably if we dont shut it down

if we can shut the edge plays down, then i think we can win the middle and grind upfield

should be a great game- but would be great to finally win 2 in a row this season and heading into bye #2

Milky has done well. I dont know what disciplinary reasons alamonti was dropped for but hes been one of our best this year.

All hands on deck needed..

Patea is undroppable at this point.

Huge few weeks for lindsay imo. Him and henry need to fight it out for the starting role spot and patea needs to stay in the 17.

Was thinking the other day, there isnt hast been enough competition for spots this year. We've got like one spot up for grabs, everyone is far to comfortable. There are like 18 guys who are certainties to get picked every week they are available.

Dyl
Biz
Tago
Yeo
Nath
Kenny
Leota
Lindsay
Henry
Sorro
Marto
Paps
Garner

Then we have the lack of competition for back up spots. Laurie, Brad and huth dont even have to play well to maintain their place in the pecking order, they are certainties to play when there is an out in their postions.

For a team that has been in the bottom for almost half a season. thats not good. Sure you stay loyal and keep picking winners while the going is good, but took half a year to actually drop a starter in Alamoti despite us losing.

How many of these certainties are playing well? I would argue not one of them is playing to their potential this season, not even yeo.

It is difficult argue with this. I thought in SOO our players looked like players that are part of the greatest team of the modern era. It seemed to fire them up. Other than that they have looked strangely flat and quiet all season.

As for competition for places, we seem to be in a gap year. Through our five year run, every year we have produced another couple of good players of first grade quality. This was at its peak when we won the GF in every grade. That seemed to put the competition on high alert to the riches in the Panthers development system and we were raided big time. Even fringe players that we had improved like Capewell and Hoskins were lost to us, decisions based on salary cap issues, but how good would it be to have Hoskins right now?

I think this can be coupled with a few poor retention decisions where we thought players coming through are better than they are. Turuva was a good quality winger, better than Alamoti has shown so far (my opinion) or at least as good. We jumped the gun letting him go because the McLeans aren’t ready yet. We let Hoskins go and there is nobody in the lower grades looking like his equal. Geyer is not good enough based on what he has shown so far and Hasset is still raw.

I say this with the benefit of hindsight, judging who is going to make it is an art form all by itself. I heard Gus discuss this on a podcast and he admitted he wasn’t good at seeing how a youngster could develop into a first grader. He cited Jim Jones as being an example of somebody who is really good at it. We need him to spot a few more right now.

This year, only Patea looks like he will make it. I understand from the knowledgeable people on this forum that are a number of really good prospects in Flegg and the system may start producing players again maybe next year. Hopefully, teams start raiding Canterbury juniors now they have primed their system like the Panthers and leave us alone.

Id put Casey in there with Luron, i know he is more error prone right now and still learning, but he is definitely going to make it, the only question is how good will he be, dont think there is any question about him making it in the nrl.

But yeah good post, its a gap year for us so lets not waste it. We need to build our depth back up. We need to clean out some of that depth before we can get the right guys into position in the squad. My big fear for the year now is not that we suck(ive accepted that) its that we will get to start of next year and be no better off. Besides Luron, Casey and blaize getting more experience we wont have figures anything else out.

As for our origin guys(plus moses) as a collective they are not playing anywhere near well enough. They get one years grace based on their 4 premierships, but its not a sustainable situation to have so many of our best guys underperforming. By early next year if the situation has improved we need to figure how we are going to dump those bad contracts, cause that is what they will be.

Excellent post and I stand for every word, I am sure most on here do as well!
Question is how do you stop being raided? How do you identify the ones you really want of it means you have to pay more?

Garner on the bench allows you to run with no back which is a massive added bonus having him in the side. Sommo should be the 14 for the moment while Kenny is playing like shit. Otherwise team picks itself with Paps and Garner in for Eiso and Laurie.

I do think we need to continue using Paps as an edge forward but by my eye, Sorenson is the better bodyguard for Talagi. I’d start with Sorro for the opening half hour and then bring Paps on for them to run amok when the game has softened up.

We can only use so many edge forwards, there isn’t really enough minutes for four. If garner, sorro, paps and marto are all in the side one of them is not playing on the edge much at all. They can all be there but one of them is spending most of their time in the middle. With two of them on the bench you get one prop and a utility.
