I agree with this - but are the 2025 Bulldogs the equivalent of 2020 Panthers, or 2014 Panthers?

We had to buy all manner players to bridge the gap while our juniors developed. Sika Manu, Elijah Taylor, Brent Kite, Dean Whare etc. I think that's where the Dogs are now.
They don't have a spine player as good as Moylan. He was the 2014 side

The players bought by Penrith in 2014 were mid range players with great characters.

2025 Dogs are buying elite players.....with the wages to match.

Trent Merrin, Elijah Taylor, Dean Whare and James Maloney were all active rep players when we signed them.

Sika Manu, Lewis Brown, Jamie Soward and Brent Kite were only a few seasons removed from rep footy, or made rep squads during their time with us.

Yes, we probably paid overs for a lot of them. Just like the Bulldogs paid overs to kickstart things with Burton and Kikau.

Guys like Nathan Smith, Ryan Simpkins, Matt Robinson and Adam Docker were the budget buys.

Anyway, all history now, but don't be surprised if in 5 years time the Bulldogs are mostly home grown. And I'm sure Gus would be working towards that timeline. But there is no harm in competing hard for a premiership while waiting for the juniors.

Docker is one of the worst Panthers of all time. The love he got for missing 10 tackles to make 1 decent hit was very odd
