Jenkins form has certainly slipped a little but that was expected as he was playing well above his ability really. By September hopefully Alamoti is on that wing as he makes more meters and is just a better player with more upside.
Unless there is an injury, Alamoti will be in reserve grade for the rest of the season.

Milky is simply playing better than him, particularly in defence.

I don’t think it’s outrageous to say that we currently have the two best defensive wingers in the comp, which is huge.

All the crap on here about marto is ludicrous.

I watched him very closely tonight and i could write a long winded post about keyboard warriors on here with no idea.

Fact is his line speed in defence was incredible and ive never seen garner, soro or paps get remotely close to what he did off the balk tonight..

You cant quantify that kind of effort in stats..

On another note.. dyl is the fittest his been in years and is looking like hes ready to carry us to a prelim or gf. He was everywhere again.

Settle down @Girds89. Some of us will happily eat our humble pie after that performance but the reality is that was comfortably his best performance since the GF. 50% + better than anything else he has dished out this year.

That hasn’t been anywhere near the norm over the past 2 regular seasons and Garner has been miles ahead of him in consistency and bang for buck.

Last night he looked like a Kangaroos backrower.

Liam Martin leads our kick chase, that’s a fact. That’s his job.

Liam Martin controls our line speed, that’s a fact. That’s also his job.

It’s not difficult to comprehend

Alex Seyfarth could do that too if that’s all you think he needs to do. Martin wasn’t one of the games best back rowers purely on his line speed, when he’s playing well there’s a ton more strings to his bow like we saw last night.

I dont think that’s difficult to comprehend either.

Yep that was so much better than any regular season game in the last 2 years from Martin. No one ever said he is shit. He has the ability he just has a habit of coasting through games either because he waits for big games or injury whatever.

Even Nathan can go for periods of games doing the same he did it last night in the second half.

Alex Seyfarth is a very poor example.

We have won four premierships in a row, playing a game based on Kick Chase and Line speed. Marto leads us in both those areas. It’s what separates him from the other good second rowers.

It worked beautifully last night.

Leave him on the bench against Titans and Newcastle. Start him against Melbourne.

That's 2 from 2 with players improving after being dropped to the bench as well..........something I was told wouldn't motivate this level of player........

This is exactly the narrative and thought train that sums up that some fans domt really watch the game closely..

Leading the kick chase every tackle (normally a 50m sprint) and leading the line speed on the edge and sprinting back to the line and doing that over and over isnt coasting through a game..

It requires a huge amount of energy and supreme fitness.

Is there any suprise that Marto was more effective last night playing way less mins, and during a game where we were never pressured and had basically an easy game?

Of course he was going to have more energy to run the ball etc when he came on.

Personally i think we need martos defence amd what he brings to our team for a defensive mindset moreso than what he brings in attack..

Ivan needs to be smart about the bench rotations for the 2nd rowers and bring in paps and garner when marto and soro have taken the sting out of a tight contest and we are starting to get ontop in the panthers grind.

A fresh Paps and garner both over a hell of a lot more than what a cooked marto can after 50mins of defensive effort.. he clearly knows his role in the team and ivan obviously has tasked him to do those things on the defensive front. Ivan just needs to be able to see when he is soent and get him off as garner or paps cing on fresh against tired defenders when we are on top in the grind is what we want and how we can beat the top teams in a big game.

He wasn’t dropped, he was playing reduced minutes because of an injury…. Or are we saying Nathan was dropped as well??

Hell, look how good Yeo played this week after he was completely dropped last week…

Hahahaha

Don’t bother mate… I’ve been trying to explain this all season.

Could tell from the first minute he came on (and gave away a dumb penalty) that he was more fired up. You really only ever see what your preconceived ideas are.

Good point re penalty. Looked like he wanted to prove a point & it showed. Noticed that he was on the sideline waiting for an age to come on. I wonder if that was Ivan's plan to get him rabid?

There is no doubt he has been flat this season compared previous ones & we are only comparing him to himself as we what we know he can deliver. He's had a heavy workload over these last few years (goes to show just how GOAT Yeo is!) so daresay there is likely some fitness/motivation management going on here by Ivan. We'll see if having him on the bench is a once off but I do agree that it would be an interesting tactical option as we prep ourselves for the run in.

Well done Ivan & co. Perhaps all we needed was the challenge to motivate us? Still a way to go but we're looking primed for a legitimate shot at our defence.
