Hopgood has never been very good. He’s copped a lot of praise for being busy, but his skills are very average. Much like we’re seeing with Iongi (and dare I saw, Waqa Blake), there’s a reason that they were playing reserve grade at Penrith and we didn’t have to struggle hard to sign them.

Other teams have all worked him out. If you wrap the ball he’s got nothing else. No speed, no footwork or agility and no real power. Just wrap him up and it’s an easy dead play
That last 5-10 minutes reminded me of the backend of 2009, where we’d realised that playing to systems wasn’t working so the idea was to throw the ball around and see how it goes. It worked then and we looked great late in the game tonight, but that sort of reckless shit only happens when the actual gameplan and systems aren’t good enough in the first place. It’s not a great reflection on the coaching.
