For all his size and power, Mal was first noticed by a BRL scout while playing touch for a police team. Apparently he was untouchable, which is ironic in touch footy.

He played 26 more Origins than Ella and over 40 more tests.

Talking to my grandmother last night and she asked why Steve Ella never gets talked about as one of the great centres to play the game like a Mal Meninga for example after seeing him lead the boys out last Friday night.

Zip Zip was before my time but it just goes to show how being a media personality and dribbler like Mal where rugby league gave him nothing.

That Mal manages to get more accolades and recognition for his career a lot more then a hard working Zip Zip man who does his charity and community work away from the spotlight.

Mal was more comparable to Crow.

Zip Zip as the name suggests was endowed with a shit load of acceleration and speed, different players.

And blokes like Bert who sometimes played in the centers keeping him out of the center spot while King Wally played 5/8

Mal played when he was past his use by date with a bung arm but no one else was really putting pressure on his place in the Kangaroo squad.

Difficult to compare players from different eras and different situations

Mal was on another level. A beast of a player at all levels.

Dumb as a post though. He should be ashamed of some of the shit that he has said and done over the years.
