Talking to my grandmother last night and she asked why Steve Ella never gets talked about as one of the great centres to play the game like a Mal Meninga for example after seeing him lead the boys out last Friday night.

Zip Zip was before my time but it just goes to show how being a media personality and dribbler like Mal where rugby league gave him nothing.

That Mal manages to get more accolades and recognition for his career a lot more then a hard working Zip Zip man who does his charity and community work away from the spotlight.

Im not sure if you ever got to watch Meninga play, but he was an absolute beast. Maybe not an immortal in my eyes but definitely one of the best players I’ve ever seen. He deserves pretty much all the accolades.

Ella was brilliant, but got a bit overshadowed by his teammates.

He did lose a little zip after his leg injury. A great player though. Once scored 7 trys in a game on a Kangaroo Tour.

Mal was on another level. A beast of a player at all levels.
