Bit rough to put our most consistent backrower on the bench but the great man will do as needed

I thought Sorro was pretty good too tbh. I'm assuming that's due to being fresh after 3 weeks off so it doesn't change anything longer term but he played well yesterday.

The bench thing is kind of boring to be honest. I get why some of you whinge about it, and I've never really loved it either, but Ivan has played with a 2 man middle bench rotation this entire time. The other two spots are either, spine, backrow/centre or edge cover. Always has been. Yesterday was no different. Sommerton acting as spine/backrow cover (as Kenny can shift there) while Laurie was cover for Fullback and wing, two of whom played Origin 5 days before. The idea its some monstrous travesty that cost us the game and makes him a shit coach is unbelievably ott, particularly given we a) won the game and b) have had the most dominant period in Rugby League history using this exact strategy.

I know things haven't gone great this season, but the idea that things like this have much impact is pretty ridiculous tbh. Do feel for Hassett, who would have been chomping after last week though.

The fact hassett missed out for Laurie definitely adds to the emotion in the comments here.

Garner, Papalii and potentially Henry to comeback into the team makes Penrith a whole lot stronger. Plus Alamoti out wide, things are looking up. Sommerton needs to stop holding the ball up to long he is pressuring the attack. Cole should be the utility.
Does Henry make us stronger? I'm not sure. Someone is going to have to miss out when they're all fit.

Both he and Smith have been way down on last year and Smith was putrid yesterday, just a dumb soft footballer at this point. Drop them both and play Soro/Ipap in the middle.

Ipap didn't look bad in the middle, but he looked much more dangerous on an edge. Henry/Leota into Patea/Sorro might be a decent shout though, especially if Kenny is doing a stint there.

Sorro should be used to put pressure on our props. Right now Patea is the most impactful and consistent.
Smith runs sideways and gets smashed every run, he ran far straighter yesterday he needs to keep doing that. Moses probably had his best game of the year yesterday and that isnt saying much, he was solid, i cant remember any glaring stupid penalties from him whoch was a change. Henry, like Moses, is just an ill disciplined muppet atm and he has no PCT in him, as soon as a defender breathes on him he stops going forward.

Somehow 6 game patea is making metres, not getting pinged for dumb shit consistently and not getting ran through defensively better than Moses or any other prop we have right now.

To be honest I wasn't that annoyed about Laurie being there. I just didn't like having both him and Sommerton on that bench. Even with Kenny playing 80 minutes it just looked too thin. Was dirty Hassett didn't get another shot.

Cole again played some fullback in cup yesterday and pulled off a very important tackle that stopped the Eels comeback. If anyone else is going to take that role on the bench its probably him.

That is true. Not just cover for one player.

Laurie goes straight to 1, 6 or the halves if any of Edwards, To'o or Cleary go down. Laurie's recent form has been shocking but Ivan must see him as having more value across those positions than our other options.

If you want that cover you put Laurie at 14 and Hassett at 17 for better balance in my opinion.

Oh yeah like Daine is the only possible cover for an under weather Dylan, what horseshit.

Sorro been shit all year, you are just weird f**k who likes acting superior to other poster without ever doing or saying anything wothwhile. You just have this "i know better" attitude without ever posting anything with substance, eat a dick.
Pantha boi? Bring him back!

I wouldn't have an issue if Patea is picked ahead of Henry and/or Smith, though it's not a straight swap with Smith as he does a lot of work and minutes. I would drop all three before Sorro (until Sorro proves he can't play in the middle anymore, I can trust him to defend for 60 odd mins there), even Patea, but they're different types of forwards.

We were worse when Kenny was in the middle (lock?). They split us up the middle twice then? But I don't know if it was Kenny to blame or Sommerton.

It didn't seem like we were any worse when Huth was on, and even if Smith is playing big minutes bringing Huth on should be a drop in quality.

I don’t get the Smith and Sorro were bad narrative. Yesterday Smith topped the run metres for our forwards (138m albeit some from kick returns) and made 42 tackles for two misses. Sorro made 100m and 39 tackles for 2 misses. The stats are pretty typical of what we used to produce in our pomp. I thought they both put in and we looked far better with Sorro in the back row after last weeks debacle.

I didn’t think we looked better with Sommerton in attack, he kept overthinking it and taking one step too many before passing. He needs to settle down and play instinctively, we don’t need him to be Harry Grant.

Patea might be our “up next” player this year. He has looked better every game. If he keeps this up, with Henry, Papalii and Garner back we have the makings of a very decent forward rotation. We just need to keep them all on the field. No more suspensions FFS.

I love Milky. He is all guts. Not the quickest (McLean), not the strongest (To’o ), but he willingly takes the ball up to get yardage for the team and takes his lumps. He took more bombs than London in the blitz and kept coming for more. He might actually be the replacement for Turuva, a bit slower, but a better defender.

A shout out to our SOO five. 47 tackles for Martin, 200m+ for To’o and Edward’s, what an effort. I hope they rest them this week so they are ready to go against the Tigers.

After getting bamboozled for the first try (not sure WTF he was doing), Cleary settled down to be quite brilliant and illustrate why he is the Blues no 7 and not Moses. Yeo was relatively quiet, but he did his job and thankfully wasn’t required to be his usual super hero self.

I didn't think Sorensen was bad just gassed for the last 10 or so.

Sorenson wasnt bad, but he wasnt good either. He is just solid at best now. That was his best game all year, makes his tackles and didnt cost us with penalties or errors and he ran the right decoys when required, comfortably his best game this year. He isnt close to being one of our top 3 edge forwards this season. Realistically if Martin, Paps and Garner are fit he should be outside the 17.

I thought Smith had a good game yesterday. 127 run meters, off 15 runs, 35 tackles, 38 post contact meters.

What did I miss ?

Don't think yesterday was his worst but a continuation of good quantity but not great quality. Not winning enough in the ruck or getting fast play the balls away, not creating momentum, no variation like offloads and passes. I don't think he made an error or gave away a penalty which is important, makes it easier to justify himself without those.
