Lussick was poor, no doubt, but Hopgood wasn’t any better. In fact, he had a shocker. Dylan Walker completely exposed his limitations — he’s just not the elite lock some make him out to be. If this is the standard he offers in big games, then the club really needs to think long and hard about his long-term role. Personally, I’d be moving him on and shifting Jack de Belin into the No. 13 jersey come 2026. At least with De Belin, you get toughness, effort, and defensive steel — three things that were sorely missing.

Part of me thinks that's why we went after DeBelin in the first place. I think in 2026 Hopgood starts getting the Cartwright, Lane and Matterson treatment in Cup.

Simonsson is at least as good as Penisini and Russell, probably more consistent than Penisini. And he twice the player Smarani currently is.

Poor coaching/selection. If he's a defender he should have been starting (or brought on at 20min) to improve some of the pathetic first half defensive patterns.

Williams and Hopgood are both better defenders so they started. Paulo starts to give us some punch. You need toilers on your bench to rest the starters.

Otherwise it was a wasted spot in teh 17 that could have been better utilised.

Tuivaiti or Moretti would've been picked if they were available. Or possibly Lane.
