Well my analysis is that stats are waaay over-rated.

I'm certain Moses running is part of the gamelan. The problem is the gameplan needs to allow some flexibility (because the players aren't robots and also because the coach isn't a soothsayer) which means there is room for players to make decisions on the field. The more decisions they make the more often they will get those decisions wrong.
They are certainly misunderstood by plenty. But for illustrating an argument they are a lot better than no stats.
