Sharks are Eels tier under BA. Constantly thereabouts finals team who you can always discount as also rans.

They may as well blow it all up like we have under Ryles because they aren't going anywhere with the squad, coach and club they have.

Gotta hand it to coach Flanagan, he's a good old school grind 'em out coach with an eye for gritty hard working stalwarts to prop up a club marking time, still, I'm glad we went for Ryles instead.

That is true. Players will think they are ready for FG and make a decision to leave for an opportunity elsewhere if they feel they are being blocked. Some recent examples, Katoa, Talagi, Sanders, Iongi, Dearden and no doubt many others.

So then it goes back to Dylan's PO along with Blaizes. They had an ace up sleeves.
But but but but but

Big game for not only one of my drunken bets that Eels would finish higher than Chooks on the ladder at season's end but for coach Robinson, the most blessed with arrogance, ignorance and an oversupply of sanctimonious of all the coaches in the modern era.

He's got the financial backing of the richest man in the comp with a commensurate salary cap that's more magic pudding than an equitable distribution of funds yet he's produced 3 fifths of sweet f**k all given the length of his career.

With a combined state of origin forward pack, and backs most clubs would spend all their cap to retain, he still sits adrift of the 8.

What is the actual ace though? They were off contract regardless of the PO. The only difference being the timing of their committment to stay or not.

Edit: Actually didn't Talagi sign with Penrith in August, so 3 months before Brown would have been on the open market without a PO? I dont see how Brown's PO impacted Talagi going to Penrith... it definitely impacted our ability to replace Brown in Nov 2024, but Talagi was long gone by then.

This game has a lot of spice!

Is there some history I'm missing between these clubs?

It's what Origin used to be.

Short forward pass detected.

If that was Harry Grant passing out of dummy half to a forward in an offside position we'd all be subjected to try of the season replays.

Pass from Whyte to Teddy as forward as the called back Dolphins one.

Looks like the NRL is calling in the Chooks for an NRL finals landing.

The ace of a PO being that the individual player can activate the additional year, regardless of form or the need to impress to earn an extension etc. Which is some way limits the flexibility of an employing club until such time as the player holding a PO is comfortable giving certainty, one way or another.

The comparison being if the player were signed without an additional PO year, as is stated current practice of the Club to no longer offer any POs.

The PO had nothing to do with it. Talagi was off contract and Drown wasn’t. The problem was timing. Talagi thought he was ready this year, and we already had two NRL quality halves contracted for 2025. We needed a fullback, not a five eighth, and Talagi didn’t want to play fullback. So we went and got a fullback.

While we get into the weeds of this fascinating debate over POs and how they impacted on the signing of Dylbro to the Knights we take this intermission to Bulldogs vs Warriors.

Talagi is a loss leader.

Overrated hack who I'm glad we lost to the Panties.

Ethan Sanders is the one we let get away and that was 100% due to BA favouring his own bereft of elite NRL talent son* over one.

*Note: I didn't say Jacob wasn't worthy of NRL, he clearly is, he's a great backup but Ethan Sanders is next generation tier who the Raiders stole from us on account of nepotism.

I've told you before, Jake Arthur left the club three weeks after Ethan Sanders played in the winning SG Ball grand final in 2023.
