And why do another American Psycho?

The original was dog shit and that sequel was apparently much worse! Unless they up the dosage on the gore and make the humor blacker it will suck!

I love how you throw Mortal Kombat in there like it was anything other than an awful video game movie. I loved it as a kid, but it's the drizzling shits.

Mortal Kombat was a high quality campy B-movie, certainly not awful but not great at all either.

There is *huge* potential for a reboot done well here, although they've already wasted some of that potential on those many short clips they've done. Some showing immense potential while others are just meh.

The hardest part about an MK reboot is keeping the characterisation focused, they can't go down the Marvel route and shove every shmo they can find.

Agree we don't need another one, but the original American Pyscho is a massively underrated film.

And it is NOT a gore flick.
If you think it's a gore flick you've majorly missed the point.

I agree, the 2000 American Psycho did a great job focusing on the satire, I'm glad they cut out a lot of gore from the book. I prefer the movie to the book, I just wish they filmed the 'boy at zoo' chapter.

If they do a MK reboot then they should stick to the originals to begin with.
Lu-kang, johnny cage, sonya, raiden, scorpion, sub-zero, kano, goro.

In exactly the same way that the book was not about the gore.

The violence is a distraction from all the self serving bullshit Bateman and his ilk get up to.

I'ma big fan of the book is all. I just thought the way they adapted it was pretty weak because I'm so familiar with it.

Rules of Attraction is the best adaptation of a Bret Easton Ellis Novel Imo but lots of people didn't like it either.

The other flick on that list that doesn't need doing is that Leatherface one. I actually saw the reboot before the original mainly because I was so scared... but found myself laughing through it because Gunnar Hansen's Leatherface was such a genius! The dinner table scene was a pisser when they are trying to get Grandpa to crack the girl's skull was a pisser.

Leatherface isn't meant to be scary. He's an idiot manchild yet the 2 reboots they did made him more terrifying.

One of these days I'll get around to the one with Dennis Hopper.

Prison Break would have to get the award for dramatically contrasting quality between it's first and second seasons. The writers of that show really had no f**king idea what they were doing once they got out of the prison.

That said, while a lot of these reboots look like giant turds, I wouldn't mind seeing more of it in the television space like what they've done with Daredevil. Nothing is worse than "reality television."

There's a new Star Trek show out next year too.

Don't blame the writers, blame the network.

It was written as a mini-series and the network kept pushing him to first extend it to a full season and then extend it well beyond its use by date.

If they do a MK reboot then they should stick to the originals to begin with.

The biggest issue with MK is that it has next to no story, so adapting it basically means either inventing something or just doing a movie about a bunch of people fighting for reasons.

That said, if they can make an Angry Birds movie, they should be able to do something with MK.

It has to be a character driven plot, similar to the first Avengers. You could flesh out the key characters, give them personality and motivations, make the audience care about them. The rest can take care of itself by getting the characters interacting with each other with the plot devices carrying them forward.

Oddly enough the first MK hinted towards that a bit when Raiden was trying to teach them to wrestle their own demons (Liu Kang - blind revenge, Sonya - going it alone, Johnny Cage - ... well they mentioned something, ego?). Nowhere near enough of it though.

A reboot for e.g. needs to give us a reason to hate Kano, Sub-Zero and Scorpion to be sworn enemies. Is Raiden a reluctant overseer a la Dr Manhattan, or more proactive? Does Shang Tsung want to break away from Shao Khan's bidding etc. etc.

There's enough stuff there if you take the comic book approach.

There is an Uncle Buck TV show about to premier over here in the states. The twist is the family and Buck are all black.

See to be a steaming wet fart of a show, but when it gets cancelled I doubt anyone will try and play the bigotry card to explain ts failure (unlike another upcoming 80s classic reboot abomination)

Watched Rush Hour last night. Wow, so awful. Completely cringeworthy.

Exorcist is another movie they're remaking into a TV series.

A lot of these remakes will never actually make the screen, and if they do they'll have been in development hell for so long they'll be a mesh of different ideas from multiple writers/directors etc. The Crow has gone through God knows how many directors/actors during development. Still remember when Bradley Cooper was going to take on the role and that was probably 4-5 years ago.

As for MK, they've been trying to get that off the ground since the group of filmmakers created the Legacy trailer to use as a proof of concept for the film

The remaking movies for TV isn't a knew thing, but it doesn't look like they're doing a good job of it. Lethal Weapon looks awful, Rush Hour was awful, Minority Report has already come and failed, and Exorcist will be facing an uphill struggle.

12 Monkeys is probably the only recent Movie to TV series I can think of that came out looking decent.

I enjoyed Hannibal, but I don't know if I would classify that as a direct Movie to TV series as I felt the books had more influence than the movie.
