Reason for Golden Point Draw Breaker?

Could someone remind me why this was introduced ? It seems to me that it is fair for teams finishing on equal points after 80 minutes to share the spoils and each get a point on the ladder. Any comments ?

A lot of half wits watch the games and need a 'result'. They do not understand that a draw is a legitimate result and would rather see a tough match turn into a field goal shoot-out.

As half-wit money is as good as any money, the lowest common denominator gets catered to, yet again.

Well I agree with Golden-point or Golden-try to decide games that need a result (Origin, semis ect..), but for ordinary premiership games it's ridiculous.

I think in the regular season games they should have it but give both teams 1 point and if someone scores then they get the second point.

I agree that it makes sense for games that need a result and that has always been the case in finals. I'm happy with Origin being a draw. To change the system in the season after all these years does not make sense.

Then you have to increase the premiership points allocated to three.
Cant have "normal" games getting a total of 2 points and "golden point" games having a total of 3 points.

I think he's saying that at the conclusion of the real game both teams get one then whoever wins golden point gets one.

Golden Point should be Golden Try so we see attacking football.

Are you guys serious about getting rid of Golden Point? If its a draw it feels empty. You doint know if you should feel happy or sad.

Which means that at the end of golden point you have a team with 2 points and a team with 1 point, which cannot happen.

you cant have the Panthers and the Dogs get 1 point each at the end of 80 minutes and then give another point to whoever wins in golden point.

Should just be a draw unless its a game which NEEDS a result (finals only, draws in Origin just goes to the previous years winner)

I hate golden point. What's wrong with a draw?

The ironic thing is... the NRL are always striving for an 'even comperiotion' with the salary cap and other measures. The microcosm of an 'even competition' is a drawn result - yet they virtually eliminate draws with golden point.

Yes...and that adds up to???????? (you wont need a calculator)
Every single game needs to be equal....either 2 or 3 or 4 or 100...doesnt matter.

Is there any rule of the game someone on this forum won't whinge about??

- golden point is stupid
- 2 referees suck
- video refs get it wrong
- too many tries from kicks
- monday night football is pointless
- non-rating teams don't get enough FTA games
- The NRL doesn't want to expand the game
- The NRL isn't doing enough to preserve current clubs

Agree about Golden try, but it's never going to happen.

A draw doesn't seem empty, it is as Parra said:

Doesn't particularly bother me either way. As long as none of the rubbish calls to make it "golden try" are introduced. Terrible idea. Why should a field goal shoot out be good enough for the final 15 mins of a game but not the extra time period?
