thought he had a sly dig at SJ. Didnt really understand what he was saying. Players dont want to win?
He was talking about players wanting to play well for the team vs just wanting to play well individually for their own highlight reel. A young SJ probably did that, most young flashy players do. But this year he’s playing his heart out in all the effort areas that don’t make the highlight reel too.

Think a young Brandy did that too, lot of similarities between him and SJ imo, except he worked it out 1990/91, and then of course with Ben dying it fell apart for him

I reckon Walsh is the classic current example. He’s a walking highlight reel but I’m yet to be convinced he’s that interested in the 1% plays.

Neither Brandy nor SJ had the arsehole factor though

Webster’s approach is a breath of fresh air. There’s no complaining about not having every game this year in NZ, it’s just a happy team, good culture. Regardless what happens, he deserves Dally M coach of the year

100%. The worst you could say about SJ was he was a bit of a princess but he never came across as a dickhead. Was always good with the media and kept his nose clean Even when he was the golden boy.
Walsh is very talented but he’s a massive show pony and a bit of a dickhead to boot, I’m honestly not sad he left, CNK fits our culture way better.

Amazing turnaround from last couple of years. Webster has done a great job and SJs form and turnaround is unbelievable.

I rewatched the 1st game this season against Newcastle - we were clunky but the desperation in defence was what won us the game.

It also looks like players are carrying less weight and are more mobile. Very Penrith like in fitness and body shape

I’d say our attack has only really clicked properly in the last month, partly due to the SJ/Metcalf combo really working but also due to others really settling into their roles. Before that it was often a bit weak and we were winning games on the back of defensive intensity and outlasting opposition but now we’re piling on the tries.

I reckon we’ve got 3 or 4 pretty good chances for the Dally M team of the year too.

Webster has to be favourite for coach of the year
SJ would be a front runner for halfback
Walker for interchange player
AFB for front rower
And possibly DWZ for winger

Oh and Walsh won’t be eligible because of his judiciary issues lol

Tohu should be Lock & Captain of the Year.

Great call - Tohu has been an inspirational leader through the tough time and now hopefully through some good times. His work rate in every game is right up there and he is as skilful as ever. Never drops his head and sets a great example for the team

Metcalf gives me a little of that vibe, too. The second try he scored against Parramatta being an example. Massive overlap, just needed to send it from dummy half for someone to go over 2 out from the ruck untouched but ran it instead. It came off, but he made it way harder (and therefore more highlight reel) than it needed to be. But hey, he's doing all the other stuff too, so a little flash here and there is all good, right?

He’s young and he has the skills and is establishing himself so yeah I think he’s allowed to take the cocky option and back himself occasionally.

Imagine if we go deep into the finals and then the ABs bomb out of their world cup.

They hype for the Wahs in the summer and with RTS coming will be unheard of

I 100% agree but I just wonder if he’ll still fly under the radar with the judges.
