I think the game is becoming faster, more powerful and more dynamic. The QLD team over the last "few years" has some of the greatest footballers I have ever seen but they are at the end of the careers. The next generation hasn't come through which is hardly surprising given their success and loyalty to the guys who gave them that success. But you look at guys like Fifita, Merrin and Woods - QLD doesn't have anything to compete with that up front. Tariq Sims is the next one. Throw in hard nuts like Gallen and Watmough and you have huge metres. It's very hard to contain.
In years gone by the QLDers have always broken even in their pack and let the backs cut them up. Even shit footballers like Bella, Larsen and Moore were able to draw even against far more talented opponents. But they didn't in Game1 , probably won't in Game 2 and almost definitely won't in Game 3. Papaali is a very good selection but they need guys like McGuire and Taumalolo to come good.
Truth is they have slim pickings in the pack. Look at the current QLD team. Packed full of second rowers because they have no dynamic props. A few years ago, NSW had the same problem, thus the selection of Gallen at prop. But the worm has well and truly turned. Stick a Graham or a Burgess in that team, and it's a different story.
