I have been struggling to find any new music the last couple of months so I thought someone here might have some good recommendations.

I am interested in something heavy and open to trying different styles, preferably newest bands.

Currently I'm into Dark Tranquillity, Be'lakor, Orpheus Omega, As I lay Dying (just read about the lead singer arrested for solicitation for murder!), Cog, Butterfly effect, Dissona, Eluveltie, Mastodon, Ominium Gatherum among others

Cheers

Try Baroness, pretty straight ahead hard rock/metal (Red and Blue albums) and then a bit more melodic stuff later (Yellow and Green albums).

Meshuggah will test your love for metal, go for the albums Nothing, Catch 33 and ObZen.

Gojira goes alright.

For something more obscure check out Ninjaspy (fairly generic but I dig it)

An old band that may be new to some of you.

Big Star

Hugely influential on many great bands like REM, Teenage Fanclub, The Replacements etc.

Classic guitar pop from the early 70's.

Check out the Nothing Can Hurt Me documentary if you can. Sad story but timeless, great music.

If you like Cog, butterfly effect etc try 'circles', an Aussie hard rock band that are creating more of a name for themselves. I'd start with the album 'infinitas'. If you want to listen to a song, try 'responses' .

Circles, never heard of them. I might check them Out. I don't know if the butterfly effect will ever be the same with the new singer but we will see. And cog have been split up for a few years now, a shame really.

I have only just discovered five finger death punch and can't get enough of them.

You're right about Butterfly Effect, I have heard some new stuff live and it doesn't do it for me. However, the old singer has a new band called 'like thieves' and they have recorded some music that is available on I-tunes.

Thanks for the quick responses, I'll check some of these out.

Yeah I agree about Butterfly Effect. Can't see them being the same with a new singer.

Like Thieves is really good, probably better than the last few TBE albums.

Thy Art Is Murder 'Hate' get on that shit Perth Tiger. They are getting pretty big in the states as well, awesome aussie metal, probably one of the best metal drummers I have seen/heard in 20 years of being a metal head.

Another good aussie band is King Parrot

Check out this song

Crank it or listen it through headphones.

This is another good song as well

For something a bit different to your run of the mill metalcore band check out crossfaith. They are a Japanese electronicore band. Played at this years Soundwave and they went off. They are gaining in popularity and have been touring the world big time over the last year.

This is my fav song of theirs http://youtu.be/cg9sCRzbvHY

Also this is their cover of the prodigy song 'omen' http://youtu.be/cGJfO3P4s04

The techno style adds a whole new dimension to the metalcore genre and IMO crossfaith does it best. They shit on those enter shikari douche waffles.

I'm not a huge fan of the electronic/metalcore/whatever mix and I'd heard their stuff before and still didn't like it, but they f**king killed at Soundwave, I was shocked at how good they are live. I'd definitely see them again.
