Recruitment for 2011

Because we have the worst recruitment in the NRL...wait, actually Pentith's is worse.

We wait for players to leave before we start replacing them. We should have been more proactive and gone after players before we lost KK and Mateo.

We should have given JT an offer he can't refuse, or gone after hodgkinson or Barba well before they signed contracts. But now...we have no one.

Need to be PROACTIVE!!

To be fair, that's what we did last year when we were in a slump, only to turn around our season and you really have to question what Shacks, Poore, and Tahu have added to our side this year. Sometimes it's good not to jump the gun. You can't just throw an unbelievable offer at someone like JT, otherwise you end up not affording players in other positions and end up a one man team like the Cowboys have been the past 3 years.

No i wouldn't have. He's not worth 300k.

Waiting is the problem...can't just wait for things to fall into place.

If we want a top line half back, we have to go after him. There's no point having all this money if there is no one to spend it on. Why didn't we release someone to keep Kingston last year? we should have in my opinion. I reckon our player recruitment/retention has been terrible over the last 10 years or so. I hope that changes soon.

I can't see us winning a premiership with Morts and Robson in the halves and MK at hooker. Hope i'm proven wrong.
We are hardly waiting for things to fall into place. There was blatant announcements via the papers to Cronk & Barrett that we want them. We told Melbourne we will take Cronk off their hands

I had my whinge to a director a few weeks back and have been asked to stay patient because things will fall into place..so I'll just stop whinging and re-asses September 1.

That's why the Barrett/Kimmorley rumours are good. If Morts/Robbo/Humble suddenly explode with Dally M style performances, signing an old head for 1 year isn't going to harm our recruitment for 2012. If Morts/Robbo/Humble don't go on then we've delayed the problem a year by signing Barrett or Kimmorley

or if the other bloke can convince his club that he wants a release than we can forget about the old heads all together.

Perhaps someone can list a player that has signd elsewhere that will significantly improve our roster. It seems overs were paid for the players we have lost and Hodko is no way a $270k half back.

There are a lot of players off contract that will become availble at a decent price, patience is a virtue.

That's exactly how I feel Delboy.
Plenty of water to flow under the bridge yet.

I agree about shacks for obvious reasons, but in the long term he'll be better than Lowrie or Gulavao.
Poore has added something but the Tahu signing seems to have gone against us.

I know you can't throw Money at JT, but what i'm trying to say is that we should have either signed someone before we let KK and Mateo go, or we should have kept them. Going after players like Barrett and Kimmorley seems like desperation to me. Although i'm hoping for something from Ando.

Speaking to someone in the club, the feeling is that they do not need another young half and if they can pick up an experiienced player to guide the team and assist the players there, it will be of benefit.

They can then set themselves up for who will be available in 2011, I believe they are being pretty realistic

Makes sense.

We have Morimer & Humble already.

The Dogs have taken a huge punt on KK & Hodko and if it pays off good luck to them but it's obvious we need an experienced half.

Do we???

We have Humble and Shack these two players will easily replace KK and Mateo.

There is no need to go on a hunt for another 5/8, we have two at this stage with Morts and Humble.

IMO our biggest issue is we have no solid No 7, and we are on the hunt for the likes of Kimmorly, Orford and Cronk to fill that void.
