or rather lack of.
We have lost the following players since the 2010/11 season:
Necrom Areaiti
Shaun Berrigan
Lewis Brown
DJ Collier
Sosaia Feki
Anthony Gelling
James Gavet
Lance Hohaia
Aaron Heremaia
Adam Henry
Pita Hiku
Krisnan Inu
Mark Ioane
Isaac John
Jeremy Latimore
Michael Luck
Suitonga Likiliki
Toka Likiliki
Joel Moon
James Maloney
Jordan Meads
Elijah Niko
Mataupu Poching
Ivan Penehe
Matt Robinson
Brett Seymour
Omar Sleimankhel
Nafe Seluini
Ligi Sao
Ukuma Ta'ai

That's 30 players and I might have missed some.

We have signed:
Friend
Lowrie
Nielsen
Peyroux
Siejka
Bukuya

That's a total of 6.

If you lose 30 players and replace them with 6
you are going backwards.

Some good names lost in there as well

From what I have been told Sao is going extremely well in NSW Cup and may not be too far off an NRL debut

They rated him highly when they got him, Has had a couple of problems as you expect from a debutant at fullback but he looks very, very promising based on his 1st couple of games

While it is a concern, it's also greatly exaggerated. The fact that we've only replaced them with 6 players suggests we're keeping the juniors we want and allowing the rest to find opportunity elsewhere.

I don't agree with all recruitment decisions, but with one team in an entire country and scouts everywhere you're going to let some quality players go who go on to make strong careers.

There is a lot on that list who simply wouldn't be an improvement, haven't kicked on, or didn't look as good as others when they were coming through the ranks.

Hindsight is 20/20.

In fairness, the ones I've bolded never played first grade at the Warriors. Your list therefore to be fair and valid should include players that we put into first grade in the interim. Then in fairness, some of the others barely played first grade (Upu, Omar, Suitonga Likiliki) barely played first grade.

I hope the club is chasing hard out for Kevin Naiqama. He covers fullback, centre and wing, just what we need. Should'nt cost us a fortune. I would chase hard after him, what's your thoughts?

It should also include players who've been developed by the club and signed into the Warriors squad in that period on the "signed" list. Do that and it starts to even out quite dramatically.

Id take him at Manly !!

Sounds likely though he will link up with his brother at Penrith

You forgot Leuleuai. And wouldn't Hurrell count as a signing as well? Also Inu was both a gain and a loss over that time so cancels out sort of.

But yeah, would be nice to get some more decent signings.

There are too many footballers playing NRL each week not up to standard and too many receiving money their experience or talents don't justify.
A void is developing between those who reached the NRL via open-age feeder competitions and those promoted from the under-20 national youth competition.
Now in its sixth season, the NYC has produced many players not ready for the top grade and too many have been cast aside.
Meanwhile, there is an increasing number of players who did not come to the NRL via the NYC and are nearing retirement.

The state cup competitions are not of sufficient standard to supply players to replace them or stall the under-20 players called up.
It all adds up to a growing gap between, say Melbourne's Cameron Smith, Billy Slater and Cooper Cronk – all of whom came to the Storm via Brisbane Norths – and the club's young winger, Mahe Fonua, a graduate of the NYC.
It should defer any thought of expansion by the ARLC.
Two additional teams would tax an already shallow talent pool.
On Monday night, Manly did not use a bench player, back-rower David Gower.
While there may be a good reason, it does send a signal that one of the replacements was only there to cover an injury, rather than make a contribution for the team.
Too many immature players are already fast-tracked into the NRL.
A savage injury toll at Wests Tigers has forced them to promote players such as fullback James Tedesco.
Still only 20, Tedesco suffered a season-long injury in his round-one debut last year and his form in 2013 indicates he would be better served spending time in a fully resourced reserve grade competition.
North Queensland halfback Ray Thompson came straight from under-20s to the NRL and played 41 consecutive matches until he injured his shoulder in round 17 last year.
He is still only 23 but his progression would have been better suited to time in an equivalent of the old NSWRL reserve-grade competition.
Fonua has leaked at least one try per game for the past month.
The season-long injury to winger Matt Duffie means the Storm may have to depend upon a player still needing more development.
Melbourne back-rower Tohu Harris is recently showing signs of tiredness. This is understandable considering he played under-20s in 2012 and this year has already played in a World Club Challenge match in Leeds and a Test match for New Zealand, as well as 10 NRL games.
Considering the huge numbers of Polynesian players in the NRL, surely the inclusion of the talented but inexperienced Harris in a Kiwi Test team is an indication of lack of depth.
The Warriors have achieved great success in the NYC, being regular grand finalists but half their NRL team in last week's record loss to Penrith came from under-20s. The Auckland-based team is bottom of the NRL ladder.
You can argue that elite players will always reach the top, irrespective of the type of feeder competition but an open-age, resourced reserve-grade competition would be preferable to the existing NSW and Queensland cups.
Cost caused the NSWRL reserve-grade competition to be abolished but maybe there has been a greater economic and human cost in the number of talented under-20 players who have been discarded, including past NYC players of the year.
Players mature at different rates of development and an under-20 competition does not allow for this.
Arguably the best football league in the world, the 32-team American NFL recognises this, not drafting players until they have completed four years of post-school college education.
A few under-20 players move to the state cup teams and eventually find their way to the NRL but this is not a well-trodden path.
Queensland Origin second-rower Matt Gillett, now 24, played under-20s and then moved to Brisbane Norths. He was selected in a Queensland Residents team, where he starred and attracted a lot of attention from NRL clubs, before signing with the Broncos.
South Sydney second-rower Chris McQueen was too old for under-20s and began his senior career as a fullback in the Queensland Cup, playing for Wynnum.
Now 25, he is recognised as one of the NRL's better back-rowers.

Hard to follow his arguments, many don't relate to or support his conclusions.

Maybe my brain is mush on a Friday avo, but what does that mean? And what to do with the topic?

Someone in the rumours thread on the main board suggested we may be looking at young Matt McGann from the Storm. Be a pretty handy pick up imo. Looks to have come back from injury strongly. A half in the Foran Mold.
