OKB, I'm just curious why you think we might be the most marketable club?

Forgetting the fact that l'm a Dragons supporter................

1 - Dragons have the largest NRL fan base in Australia and around the world.

2 - The colours RED & WHITE along with black, are the most commonly used colours for advertising.
They are attractive colours people can relate to and feel ad ease with.

3 - A glorious history - 11 premierships in a row ( no other club can stake such a claim )

4 - The famous, standout Red V .......... another great marketing tool.
( how many newer clubs have shocking mismatch designs, like Storm, Titans, etc. )

5 - We currently have almost have a representative team to chose from.

6 - Badge - Is a strong, likable badge, again, with great colours and design.

These are just a few points that add up to a great product.
When you combine everything .......... Club colours, Badge design, Jersey design, Playing squad, History etc ............ we have no peer.

Thanks OKB.

So what do you think we need to achieve by marketing? What is the purpose of it?

We need to stay up to date with putting our brand 'out there'.

The board should be onto this.
They should be listening to the fans.
Locking themselves in their glass houses does nothing to grow the club.

Pointless bringing in new fans if existing ones are leaving. They should be listening, learning andmaking the adjustments that any long term business needs to do to stay relevant.

Look at Toyota.
Stuck their heads in the sand.
Charged top dollar for their cars.
Quality gone downhill.
People are waking up.

Must keep their ears and eyes open.

Good to hear about the dragon advertising on tele where ever it may be and as said it would appear that B.G. is finally spending a bit of his money and has got something off the ground for the joint venture.

Shame that he cannot convince one of the Sydney stations to do likewise, although he operates on a regional only license , I thought that he could possibly get something going .

Good to see win network spreading the word.
But we must be active more in Sydney otherwise we miss out.

Whenever l go to watch the Dragons play the Titans at their stadium at Robina....................

* At the train station, two thirds of supporters are Dragons.
* At the ground, again, about two thirds are Dragon supporters.

I know its old news but the Dragons supporter base in South East Queensland is huge!

Not a very good picture but look at the red & white fans in the background.

This one is a bit better............. just all red & white!

My Red V ad sighting was...

In a pub at Naracoorte... South Australia.

Was on a road trip with my girlfriend from Adelaide down to the Great ocean road, stopped into a decent looking pub called Billy Macs for lunch and the first thing I saw on the big screen was a 2 minute long ad for the Red V. Of all places, I was stunned but proud.

On a side note, and unrelated to the topic somewhat.. I was in Adelaide for Christmas and I was genuinely surprised by seeing so many people getting around town in NRL supporter gear. Possibly on holidays from the eastern states but I would have seen at least 30 people in NRL jerseys / shirts etc. Mainly Storm, Broncos and Roosters.

Just a few problems with this comparison:
1. The Bledisloe Cup is contested by only two teams, NZ and Aust. The St George record was set in a competition of 10 teams.
2. The Bledisloe Cup is decided over 2 or 3 games per year. The St George record was over 11 premiership seasons with each season culminating in a semi-final series and grand final... a much harder mountain to climb.
3. It's only Rugby Union, not TGGOA... so it doesn't really count.

Excellent analysis
The 11 in a row is so many generations ago it has lost relevancy in regrads to marketing and in fact led to us being hated by many and that hatred is still evident in some circles today and in some cases the hate is larger than the adulation
The length of time it took for Provan to be recognised is testimony to that.
Our success in 77 & 79 is also not relevant to the new generations and is just something for the 40 & 50 year old supporters to remember from their youth.
We have to hang our hat on more recent achievements and that is part of the problem.

Imagine if the NY Yankees, Man U, Juventus, Chicago bears, Collingwood et al had achieved a similar feat, would they be using it at every opportunity to jam it down everyones throat & reinforce the greatest winning run of any professional sporting club in the world?

Fkn oath they would.
