So you're saying the 3 will want to renegotiate their already substantial contracts and the Storm wouldn't be capable of poaching if they wanted to . . . bad idea if you want to remain spot on

Depends on how much their "already substantial contracts" are.

There's hardly enough money left in Melb's cap to be purchasing other high profile players and paying 20 or so other blokes to make up the squad of 25. Melbourne can't buy high profile players and pay marquee money for them with the big 3 there. Wasn't the cap in 2012 4.4 million?

Surely Smith, Slater and Cronk wouldn't be accepting deals in the vacinity of an Adam Blair or Chris Sandow??

They would be taking up around 1.8 million of that 4.4 million cap from season 2012. At least? That may be a little conservative??

Going forward, with the cap rising to over 5 million it is a slightly different story. However, would you think Smith, Slater and Cronk might want a bit of that too or would they be happy forgo increases so others to get a piece as well??

You ignore the fact there are 3rd party deals outside the cap available to clubs. The total salaries paid to players at any given club (legally) is substantially more than the value of the cap.

Seems you're asking the wrong bloke Spot, Jabba, Nick, Tinkler & Co would be in a better position to answer your question.
A hint would be the fact that everyone is waiting for how much they can spend, why would Melbourne be any different . . . special maybe

Yeah possibly. However, there are restrictions on those as well.

"In 2011, the top 25 players are allowed to earn up to a maximum $300,000 from sponsorship leveraging but the total payments under these sponsorship leveraging agreements must not exceed $300,000 per club."

When I said stir the natives I assumed the chiefs would be impervious . . . maybe I give you too much credit

How about leaving your 100mm of bling at home when you visit, unless you have a small man, big car syndrome

 Looks like a pretty sizeable chip in your shoulder old man popsy.

So, going to answer my question?

Crikey, not sure I can handle this much attention. This 'chip' business is a poor response so maybe I have
over-estimated you. How about if I said it is expected that someone who has a one track mind doesn't like
what he reads about a subject he finds disdainful so responds with a nonsensical statement for lack of
something more enlightening.

Pops, why don't you answer people's legitimate questions? Is it because you need someone to hold your c**k while you piss?

But it's obviously not a subject I find disdainful poppos, was just curious about your thoughts on your mate Craig. :(

Definitely not special.

If Melbourne have the capacity to buy more marquee players then they are to be congratulated. They obviously have people there that make smart player purchases and pay players their true worth. They are most likely to get the player to perform as well.

The Adam Blair, Sandow, Jennings signings highlight the horrible recruitment of other clubs and the massive "overs" some organisations pay. Now with further cap increases for this season it is likely that clubs are going to get themselves in more trouble paying huge dollars for players who do not deliver. Talk of giving players like Inglis $1 million a season or just under 20% of the likely 2013 cap is ridiculous, even with third party agreements in place.

Penrith are a club setting themselves up nicely for a tilt at a player or two who will make a real difference at the club, both on and off the field.

Answer the question Mr Popeye or I will find you in contempt.

You've put me in lower case where I belong. You'd like the bloke who gave me the nickname by the way,
he disliked me intensely for the 25 years I worked with him and after he told me muscles don't make you
pretty the name stuck.

For a small fee I could write a response to what I write for you . . . incognito of course

That would be truly magnificent. I have transferred $100 so if you get up at 3am tomorrow that should leave you plenty of time to get down to the bank

Sounds like true love.

Unfortunately I find it a little hard to believe that Melbourne could have bought marquee players from other clubs in past seasons with the amount of cap the 3 would have been taking up.
