The rule book has not updated the recent change that 40-20 also includes the in goals side line.

The rule is regarding tackle completion and what happens after a tackle is complete, eg. Rise and play the ball.

The "double movement" penalty is for continuing to play on after the tackle is complete.
Yeah, I realised that as I finished typing but couldn't be shagged correcting it. Below is contained in the Tackle section.

When tackled: 2. A player in possession is tackled: Grounded (a) when he is held by one or more opposing players and the ball or the hand or arm holding the ball comes into contact with the ground.

Second movement after tackle When an attacking player is tackled within easy reach of the opponents goal line he should be penalised if he makes a second movement to place the ball over, or on, the line for a try. If an attacking player in possession is brought down near the opponents goal line and the ball is not grounded it is permissible to place the ball over, or on, the line for a try. In this case, the tackle has not been completed.

I always had a problem with this rule. Been out of it for too long, I can't find the bit on momentum but regardless, it seems to say you either slide over or not, if you promote the ball after it touches the ground, it's a penalty. On that reading, KF's try should have been disallowed.

I think it can only be double movement if the player stops short of the goal line and promotes the ball. If the player's ends up over the line he won't be penalised for double movement.

Are there any refs that have plied their trade in Q Cup or NZ that have been in the NRL in the last 5 years? Or are most of the refs coming up through the NSWRL/NSW Cup?

They take referees from the NSW Cup and the Qld Cup. When you reach that level you are considered "graded". For example, Tim Mander was based on Qld, and whilst he did NRL, he came up througfh Qld league comps to reach that level.

A fairly obvious knock on while trying to put the ball down ingoal was missed by the video ref today when the scum took the lead against the Raiders.

Seriously, what are they looking at? If you're going to confirm a try actually look at the video. Nobody could look at that put down and say he didn't lose control of the ball.

Re positioned the ball and grounded it. No problems with the try at all.

I thought it was a try but could see the counter argument. It’s hard. That’s why I never beat up on refs.

Yes, but Kurt is right and you are wrong.

it’s not why we lost, but we got the rough end of the pineapple yet again last night. Really sick and tired of it.
That’s your opinion. Not saying you can’t have it. But you are wrong. Texperts in the bunker said it was a try. So it’s a try.

Diddums mate. Not like Raiders are the only ones copping what we think are rubbish calls.

The officiating is garbage but it is garbage fir everyone. Okay maybe not garbage enough on Manly or Storm…but garbage
